About this deal

You can also pair it with plain soda water, for those who want to remove some of the sweetness and add a nice sparkling mixer. The added sugar adds a touch of sweetness, making this drink ideal for those who like a drink which is tasty, fruity and not bitter. This drink is perfect for cold winter evenings or long summer days – you can drink it all year round and it will still taste delicious! Just remember that strong flavours like citrus peel, chilli and fresh or dried herbs tend to be quite powerful in small amounts!

The standard tonic mixer works very well with this drink, and adds a burst of fizziness which lifts the whole experience. Rhubarb is a delicate flavour, which works very well by itself when infused into gin, but adding the ginger gives the drink a warm, spicy finish. Rhubarb’s slight tart edge is offset by the smooth gin, while the heat of the ginger shines through and brings all the flavours together. Wash and sterilise the bottle or jar you are using to make your gin (wash it with hot soapy water, then swill it out with boiling water or place it into a pre heated oven for 10 minutes). You can also drink it over ice, which will dilute the strength and the flavours – and the coldness will actually bring out the flavours of the gin. There is no cooking required; just a little bit of prep, and finishing it off is very low maintenance. The hardest part will be waiting for the drink to be ready! It’s got a cork-style lid rather than a screw top, with the latter traditionally being considered cheap, which gives Aldi’s bottle a subtly elevated feel. In the past, you have seen us review gins and gin liqueurs from a number of different supermarket giants and companies. Cut the rhubarb to 2-3cm lengths and cut the ginger into cubes (you don’t have to peel it is you don’t want to).

To make your homemade flavoured gin, take a sterilised (dry) jar or bottle and simply add your chosen fruit(s), herbs and/or spices to your gin and leave the mixture to infuse. It’s as easy as that! To turn it into a gin liqueur, simply add sugar. The own-brand gin won a Gold Outstanding title - the highest possible award - at the International Wine and Spirits Competition, beating rivals like Edinburgh Gin’s Rhubarb & Ginger option, which retails at around double the price of Aldi’s bottle.Rhubarb syrup in other drinks- This simple syrup is so versatile and will pair well with tons of other drinks. We've used it in a cucumber tonic, a Tom Collins, and even as a simple non-alcoholic rhubarb lemonade. Alternatively if you are not a gin drinker then use a similar quality of vodka to make rhubarb and ginger vodka! How do I serve Rhubarb and Ginger Gin? If you’re having a celebration day or fancy a party, you can add a splash of your ginger and rhubarb gin to a glass of Prosecco – just remember that this combination is quite alcoholic! In this issue, Gin Magazine features a variety of alternative mixers that can be combined with gin. Salt, vinegar, bacon and eggs, peanut butter, and jelly are just a few of the classic pairings. Ginger ale is less popular, but it is not as well known as other beers. To make this drink, combine raspberries with gin in the bottom of a glass, then ice, and finally cream soda. Teas with a herbal or savory flavor, such as Gin Mare and Earl Grey, are appropriate for gins with a savoury or herbal flavor. Because of the combination of pineapple and grapefruit flavors, this carbonated beverage has a fruity, bittersweet taste. Cola’s sweetness may be perceived as a problem by some drinkers, so if this is a concern, try adding a splash of water. Gin is great on its own – long summer evenings drinking G&T are a wonderful way to pass the time! But how about jazzing up your favourite drink with some added flavours? If you are a fan of rhubarb then you are probably already in love with its delicate flavour – but have you ever thought of adding it to gin?
