About this deal

We updated the Stereo Soundstage score from 7.0 to 6.5. This is a subjective evaluation, and testing the next gen Samsung HW-Q60C gave us a better point of comparison. We also corrected an error in the bar's height in Dimensions - Bar. When used for watching movies, performance of the Samsung HW-Q60B is also a bit better than the LG S65Q. As we have mentioned above, its more neutral sound profile makes dialogues in movies produced by HW-Q60B is a bit clearer and more accurate than S65Q. Additionally, both support Dolby Digital and DTS audio formats found on a lot of streaming platforms. So, despite that don’t have surround channel, but they can still play 5.1 audio format, though, they have to downmix it to stereo. However, the LG S65Q doesn’t support eARC, so it cannot reproduce high-quality audio like Dolby Atmos, etc. It cannot reproduce height sound, even just for downmixing it to stereo. Auto Power Off: The soundbar automatically powers off when not in use, conserving energy and reducing standby power consumption. There’s support for Samsung’s Health system, too, which combines workout videos with Samsung’s Health App to let you establish wellness routines and try out premium exercise classes without having to leave your home.

Since they both come with 3.1 setup, they don’t have surround driver. However, they can still play surround sound by downmix it to stereo. And of course, you will not get the true experience of the surround sound. Sound seem come from where the bar is placed instead it seem come from an accurate location in the soundstage. So, you can get the real sense when you are watching movies or playing games with 5.1 audio. Ignoring their soundstage, though, surround sound produced by the HW-Q60B is a bit better than LG S65Q. The S65Q may can get louder at max volume, which is around 95 dB SPL. Both of the Samsung HW-Q60B and LG S65Q have a simple design. They are made of the same materials, which is good-quality plastic. The difference is the material that cover it. The HW-Q60B have a solid metal grid that cover the front side of the bar. On the other hand, for the S65Q, the top and fronts of the bar are covered by high quality fabric. Dolby Digital: This widely-used format provides a higher bandwidth sound that handles five discrete audio channels for surround sound and a subwoofer channel. that is, or may reasonably be considered to be, defamatory, libelous, hateful, racially or religiously biased or offensive, unlawfully threatening or unlawfully harassing to any person or entity; However, you naturally don't get as much flexibility as with the manufacturer's top options. As with most budget bars, there's no support for Dolby Atmos, so you can't take advantage of more immersive object-based formats often found on streaming services. Its surround sound performance is also pretty abysmal. Without discrete surrounds, it has to downmix this content into stereo to play it, which doesn't sound quite as immersive. That said, if you aren't much of a movie fan, it's a great fit. Ultimately, it still makes for a solid upgrade over your existing TV speakers at a wallet-friendly price.

Acoustic Beam Technology: This technology uses beamforming to project sound in specific directions, creating a wider soundstage and enveloping the listener in immersive audio.

Both of them also have HDMI out that allows them can act as a hub between your different devices like TV and PC. Special for the HW-Q60B, its HDMI ports can passthrough 4K content with 60 Hz of frame rate. Additionally, it also can passthrough HDR video like HDR10. On the other hand, LG actually has advertised that the S65Q also support 4K video passthrough. But in fact, the highest possible resolution its HDMI ports can passthrough is full HD or 1920 x 1080 resolution. Expected, with a future firmware update, there is an upgrade on its passthrough capabilities like what advertised by LG. Meridian Audio Technology, Auto Volume, Dialogue Enhancement, Bass Enhancement, Treble Enhancement, Virtual Sound Fortunately, the Q60B’s speakers avoid actual distortion even under the heaviest duress, dialogue tends to emerge surprisingly clear and clean despite the limited dynamic range and sound ‘projection’, and there’s also quite a lot of detail to be heard during good movie or TV show mixes, suggesting that while the speakers might not have enough room to breathe, they are at least sensitive and well constructed. Gamers will be enthused, though, both by the number of game streaming services available on Samsung’s dedicated Gaming Hub screen and by the TV’s seriously speedy 9.4ms of input lag when using the TV’s ‘Fastest’ response time setting.

Conclusion

Based on our experiences, soundbars can support a variety of audio formats. However, the audio source greatly influences which audio format the soundbar will utilize. We've encountered four commonly used surround sound formats: Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital, DTS, and DTS:X. The soundbar and audio source are the components that require support for these audio formats, so you don’t have to worry about your Samsung 65" Q60B TV supporting them. We've examined the differences between each format below:

For any content that you submit, you grant SAMSUNG a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free, fully transferable right and license to use, copy, modify, delete in its entirety, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from and/or sell and/or distribute such content and/or incorporate such content into any form, medium or technology throughout the world without compensation to you. Overall, though, there just isn’t enough power or dynamic range available to really get the sound out into your room as much as you’d like it to. VerdictThe Samsung Q60B makes a good first impression on two counts. First, it’s much brighter than the majority of TVs we see in this price category. Bright enough, in fact, to handle high dynamic range sources with genuine conviction – by which we mean that bright scenes, at least, actually look like genuine HDR rather than just like something that’s a bit better than SDR. Dolby Atmos: Gives a sense of height with dedicated upward-firing drivers to produce a realistic surround sound effect. While the HW-Q60B has a bit better frequency response, the LG S65Q is better in handling distortion on both normal listening volume and max volume. At normal listening volume, both may have good performance of handling harmonic distortion, allowing them can produce pure and clean sound. But at max volume, their total harmonic distortion is rapidly deteriorating, especially for the HW-Q60B. But of course, this certainly is not a big issue since most people rarely set them at max volume. And to further improve their sound depending on your taste, they have some sound enhancement features like bass Adjustment, Treble Adjustment, etc. Sadly, their low frequency extension is not very low, so you will not feel the deep thump in bass-heavy music like EDM and hip-hop.

Their difference is also on the front side. Both sides of the front of HW-Q60B are angled while both sides of the front of the S65Q is elbow. Additionally, on the bar of the Q65Y, there are slightly indentations on the top and bottom side of the front while the HW-Q60B looks stiffer. Their dimension is also not much different. The length of the HW-Q60B is a bit longer, which is around 103 cm while the length of the LG S65Q is around 100 cm. While their depth and width is almost similar, only millimeters adrift. Sub-Woofer DesignThis soundbar is a good choice if you don't have space in your living room for satellite speakers. It comes without them, so it offers a slightly smaller footprint overall. Of course, without satellites, its surround sound performance isn't quite as impressive as what you get with the more premium Q990C. Sound effects are more concentrated to the front of your room rather than spreading out all around you for a more clear and real feel. Fortunately, you can always add satellites from the manufacturer separately, which is handy if you move to a bigger space down the line. This sleek and powerful soundbar is designed to enhance your home entertainment experience with immersive sound and advanced features. In this comprehensive review, we will delve into the performance, design, connectivity options, and more, to help you make an informed decision. Let’s dive in! The Q60B gets Samsung’s Game Bar interface, which provides key information on incoming gaming graphics and provides faster access to a few gaming-related features. This includes support, uniquely at this price point, for the Super Ultrawide GameView feature that lets you play some compatible PC games in a 32:9 aspect ratio to increase your field of view. There’s also ALLM switching but, unfortunately, that’s the last of the cutting-edge gaming features; there’s no support over any of the TV's three HDMIs for either 4K at 120Hz feeds, or VRR. The Samsung Q60B Soundbar offers various connectivity options for seamless integration into your home entertainment setup. These include: Despite making a pleasing first impression with its design and some of the more aggressive aspects of its picture quality, in the end, Samsung’s attempt to make Quantum Dot technology more affordable doesn’t result in the budget hero we’d hoped for.
