About this deal

Splendor is a game for 2-4 players. Splendor is a fast-paced, gem drafting, card development game that sees players take on the role of gem merchants, battling through the renaissance to mine raw materials, transform them into precious stones and then sell them on to the rich and affluent. Then look at the development cards– are there some easy to grab level one cards that fit with the nobles’ requirements? If so, think about aiming for those first. gem tokens - seven each of emerald, sapphire, ruby, diamond, onyx, and five gold ( wild). These are represented by poker-style chips. [3]

Players may not have more than three reserved cards in hand, and the only way to get rid of a card is to buy it.This adds a level of strategic thinking and you must keep an eye on what the other players are doing so they don’t beat you to the tiles or cards you are working on getting. Final Thoughts

privilege scrolls go next to the board, 4 Royals go face up under the board, and then choose first player in the way you do. Whoever goes 2nd gets a privilege scroll to start the game. There’s also a victory tile that reminds you of the 3 ways in which you can claim victory, so best keep that in eyeline. Buying Jewel cards is great because they grant permanent gems (did I hear someone say engine builder?! Aha!), and some have extra bonus actions on them too: Anyone who’s played the original will spend their opening turns of Splendor Duel wondering why on earth the designer felt the need to revisit something that already worked fine in terms of board games for 2 players. By the end of that first game, however, it will be clear that not only does this play a lot more distinctively than its minor rules changes would suggest, but that it’s actually a superior game in almost every regard. A mobile application version of the game, for iOS, Android and Steam, was published by Asmodee Digital. [9]This slow start is what makes it so extremely satisfying to get later in the game, when you realise that your personal collection of cards you scrimped and saved for is now big enough that it enables you to just… have cards you want. No poker chips needed. "Oh, that one costs two blue, two green and two red? I have all those. I'll take this card for free, then, thanks." Pretty standard board. Early on I’m looking for red and green gems because of the Nobles, and the White and Green cards have the best potential in row one. Two Common Strategies for Development Cards The first time I played this game I knew nothing about it and it was brought out to fill a gap in the gaming night, as a previous game had finished early. It was described to me as a engine builder with hand management thrown in. On your turn, you can do one of three things: take up to three poker chip gems from the piles, which you can then use to buy cards in future turns; buy a card from the centre to add into your personal gem collection; or 'reserve' a card by removing it from the centre grid and keeping it nearby, available to buy and add to your tableau on a future turn (but now no one else can have it).

This is my favorite strategy and it’s surprising how often someone who can do this a round or two ahead of other players ends up winning the game. You want to reinforce the competitive elements of the base game, some players may get left behind if they don’t have a strong enough strategy For players who have mastered the basics of Splendor, here are some advanced tips to help you take your game to the next level: With 3 players: 2 tokens of each gem color except gold are removed (there should be only 5 of each remaining).

Your other two options are to either recruit or reserve a character card. Characters have their recruitment requirements clearly on them. This will be a number of coloured stones they need to join forces with you. They will then bring with them the permanent stone purchasing power to your team. So that in later turns, you will be able to recruit characters using just the characters themselves. You use temporarily owned Infinity stones to recruit characters who will then bring with them permanently own Infinity stone power. You don’t mind adding an extra layer of gameplay mechanics, the rules aren’t overly complicated but they do add in extra actions that can be taken on your turn In Splendor, you embody a rich merchant during the Renaissance. You will use your resources to acquire mines, transportation methods, and artisans who will allow you to turn raw gems into beautiful jewels, attract nobles and earn prestige. It is the renaissance. Fine art is in demand and wealthy nobles are looking to spend their family’s coin. You, a rich merchant, is of course only too happy to take advantage of these fine folks. You will use your resources to acquire mines, transportation methods and artisans who can turn these raw gems into profitable jewels.
