About this deal

The game ends after every player has been the Dreamer once. Everyone counts up their points, and whoever has the most is the winner! Although in the end, we’re all winners What Do You Dream About? And actually, it’s quite the “brain game” for the dreamer. They will be listening, guessing and deciphering who’s who, all while trying to remember every guess they give. Navigate hilarious relationship milestones that will leave your feelings reeling as you play. Only by correctly predicting who makes your friends swoon will you live happily ever after with your own Dream Crush! The game is quite fun, quite original, and contains very high quality components. The replayability of this game is quite good. The game is appropriate for all ages and can’t be played by up to 10 people. Outside of these component hiccups, the gameplay in When I Dream is great. As the Dreamer, guessing words isn’t as straightforward as it appears. As not only are you trying to get the word right, but you’re also listening out for who you can and can’t trust.

If there is a one-card difference, they score one point for each card on the side with the most cards. The round ends with the dreamer trying to recall the entire dream as they guessed it, with storytelling flourishes should they wish... When I Dream

Tournaments: Game developers have held international tournaments to encourage avid fans and competitors to play the game in their own area. Players must follow a specific set of rules defined in each tournament; and must adhere to an agreed-upon playing schedule. The winner is determined by who can score the most points across multiple rounds of play. The spirits will draw a card which depicts an element of the dream and take turns trying to communicate it to the dreamer using only one word each. Once the dreamer guesses, the spirits draw another card and this goes on until the time runs out. Place the board in the center of the table. The top of the board will be the entrance to the Dream Room and features characters such as dream catchers, unicorns and shooting stars.

Players then move around the board using their token markers to match a goal, resource, or an obstacle listed on their Dreamer Card- in which case players stop at the corresponding space where ever their token lands when rolling for that turn. Explore ways to integrate cinematic experiences into the game such as character cards or reference images from popular films. The biggest hurdle for most players is putting on that blindfold. It’s pretty intimidating to be the one at the table with dulled senses, and it feels kinda surreal. You’ve also got a lot of pressure – everyone is looking at you, giving you clues, expecting you to get the right answers. All the while you know deep down you’re going to screw it up and look like a fool. Yet at the same time, it’s embarrassing to put the blindfold on. Having no idea what’s going on around you is uncomfortable. Especially when playing When I Dream in public. So it creates a barrier to entry for the game, which is something I’m never a fan of. One example I’m proud of, but probably shouldn’t be, was when the answer was ‘gorilla’. The fairies threw out words like hairy, monkey, and big. When it came to my turn I said orange, leading the Dreamer to immediately guess ‘orangutan’. Much to my delight, and the dismay of all the furious-looking fairies surrounding the table.

As far as components go, there are some great things in the box and some not so great. The cards are large and brightly illustrated, with 4 words per card (2 on each side, 1 on each end) that are cleverly designed so that only 1 word is visible during play. This is due to a fancy bed-shaped card holder that enhances the feel of the game, and a neatly organized board that indicates where to put right and wrong guesses. Scoring reminders are printed on the board as well. Also, the blindfold has a fun little design on it and should fit most people. Otherwise, fairies and the Dreamer get one point per card in the happy box. The boogeymen get one point per card in the nightmare box. While the sandmen get points based on the difference between the two piles. Each of these roles brings its own delightful spice to the game, but the scoring system leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Mainly because the winning strategy of When I Dream doesn’t align with what makes it fun.

I wish my mind was that creative. Instead, my dreams sometimes seem to be a little bit random at best. But sleep science contains many mysteries. Do our dreams have meaning? What are they trying to tell us? Players cannot say a clue that is part of the word on the dream card. (For example, you cannot say “prince” if the word is “princess”).Boogeymen will not know who the other boogeymen are. However, they will likely be able to identify each other within the round. The When I Dream board game, created by Ludonaute and co-produced by Asmodee, is a fun, creative game that is centered around the notion of dreams. In the game, one player is called the dreamer and all the other players are in their role as seers. The dreamer closes their eyes and places a comfort mask over their face to make them comfortable while they imagine strange dream situations that the seers must guess. Players then take turns being the dreamer as they reveal pieces of what kind of object or situation they are imagining until another player can make a correct guess. The first team to earn seven points wins! Well, the creative minds of Repos Production brought all of the elusive wonders of dreaming into a board game.
