About this deal

When considering whether or not your horse could become barefoot, it is best to get the opinion of at least one professional. There is no harm in asking hoof care professionals from different affiliations either, as every horse in as individual, and both horse and owner need to be comfortable with whatever path is chosen to maintain the horse’s hooves. Do not use the Medical Hoof Boot (MHB) in place of an overreach boot to prevent shoe loss. The MHB is not designed for this application and will not protect against overreaching. If your horse is inclined to overreach then an overreach boot should be used over the MHB to protect both the horse and the MHB from damage. Measure, Measure, Measure…

We’d recommend these hoof boots for horses that are barefoot and just need that added bit of protection when out on the road. In terms of rehab and injury prevention they are also worthy of consideration. Compared to the Cavallo all-round hoof boots, the HKM hoof boot is a much cheaper option, but there’s a reason for that. If you want a boot that will last the long term and is a solid all-rounder for work and rehab we wouldn’t necessarily recommend the HKM hoof boot. The Medical Hoof Boot can be used for stable or turnout and is very durable, making it suitable for repeated use.

The MHB is designed to be a snug fit so it doesn’t fall off. If you do not measure accurately or buy a size too big it can result in damage to the MHB due to the boot being trodden on by the other foot. iii) No need to add extra for dressings (if dealing with an abscess, no extra bandages are required, only your Animalintex/poultice, a turn or two of wrap to keep that in place, then the boot on top – nothing else)

Similar in design to a human shoe, a hoof boot provides complete protection for your horse’s hoof without the need for a steel shoe. There are many different types of horse hoof boot. If turning the horse out, ensure he is happy with the feel of the boot first. In the unlikely event the horse is nervous of the boot, walk him gently around his stable so that he can get used to it. They will soon realise it is comfortable and will not impede movement. Common sense must prevail! The boot is not breathable as its designed to be water resistant so we would suggest that the maximum length of use during any one ‘fitting’ is one week. Using a soft measuring tape, measure from (A) at the centre point of the chest, across the point of the shoulder and to the point (B) at the centre of the tail. When you have the measurement, remove 10cm (4inches) and choose your horse's size from the table below. Bear in mind that every horse is different and that you may need to consider a larger sized rug if you horse is particularly strongly built.Transitioning horses with less than ideal hooves may be a job that requires time, patience and a little investment, at least in the beginning. and in all cases, the management of a barefoot horse may not suit the owner’s requirements for practices that are predominantly chosen for convenience – for example, stabling him. The Woof Wear Medical Hoof Boot is a close fitting medical hoof boot to keep wounds, poultices and dressings clean. Note – If your horse has specialist or remedial shoes, or large shoes such as Eggbars or Heartbars, you may need to go up a size to accommodate these. We recommend working with your farrier to ensure you get the most applicable size for your horse.

If a horse is inclined to overreach then an overreach boot should be used over the MHB to protect both the horse and the MHB from damage. You must make your own arrangements to return goods to us and all postage costs are to be covered by you unless the goods are deemed faulty. For many horse owners whose horses can no longer be properly shod due to injury, hoof boots can be a real life saver. Hoof boots help to provide protection and stability for horses who can no longer wear shoes, right through to helping to rehab lame horses dealing with an injury or abcess. The boot is available in 10 different sizes. Please view the size guide image for fitting details. You may also need to go up a size if your horse will have a shoe on. Th medical boot is machine washable at 30 degrees. Overreaching Looking after a barefoot horse is no more difficult than a shod horse for most owners once they have a new routine established, but owners should consider their situation before deciding if barefoot is the best option for them.
