About this deal

She dipped in and out of screenwriting and acting, best known for her magnificent work on the Prime Suspect televisions series. Lynda has a strong focus on crime and thriller, as she discovered when she wrote her first series for Thames Television, Widows, in 1983. After this turning point in her life, Lynda signed her first book-deal with Pan MacMillan, who helped her publish her very first novel, The Legacy, in 1987. Wrongful Death– Six months ago, London nightclub owner Josh Reynolds was found dead. Ruled a suicide, the police investigation was closed. Then a young man, awaiting trial for armed robbery, tells his guards that Reynolds was murdered and that he has information to share. DCI Anna Travis is scheduled to leave for training at Quantico, as part of an exchange between the Met and the FBI. But before she can leave, she’s got to review the case thanks to her boss, DCS James Langton. Joining her team is senior FBI agent and crime scene expert Jessie Dewar. Despite her success, Lynda La Plante remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to write and produce television shows. Lynda La Plante was born Lynda J. Titchmarsh on March 15, 1943, in Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire, England. Her father was a salesman, and her mother was a secretary. La Plante attended a local grammar school, where she excelled in English literature. She grew up in Liverpool, Merseyside. After attending the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) training for stage, she appeared with the Royal Shakespeare Company in several productions and well-known television series under the stage name Lynda Marchal.

Lynda La Plante’s legacy as a writer and a trailblazer for women in the entertainment industry is secure. Her contributions to the crime drama genre have earned her a place in television history, and her books continue to entertain and inspire readers around the world. Above Suspicion: the Red Dahlia, ITV, review". The Daily Telegraph. London. 5 January 2010 . Retrieved 23 April 2010. In Wrongful Death, Anna is now leading her own team. It has been so much fun seeing how she has grown and matured. One of the cases that she is working on, that involves the murder of a quiet woman (there seems to be no motive that they can find), turns out it is linked to James Langton’s. She is now the gang’s next target. When Does The Next Lynda La Plante book come out? The third series was based on her fourth book, Deadly Intent. In this book, the team is called in to investigate the murder of a former police officer. TheirIt also seems like we're supposed to believe that Anna sees Langton as possibly her one-true-love, yet she appeared to be on the verge of breaking up with him in the previous book before he was injured (and long before the aforementioned abuse). With the murder squad’s newly renovated headquarters looking much better than had been expected, DCI Anna Travis gazed around on her return from a welcome break – a holiday which had left her tanned and relaxed. As each of her team members arrived, they were told to expect DCS James Langton for a meeting – he had a special case which required their attention. It turned out to be a case which had been closed six months previously, deemed suicide. A prisoner awaiting trial had told a guard that Josh Reynolds had been murdered – DCI Travis was put in charge of finding out the truth. Reading, as I do, rather a lot of crime fiction in a year, it's normally possible to find something positive. In the earlier books, even in the last one I finished, Travis was a good character who could lift a book's ranking, even one that has a flawed plot, or a lot of filler, or some daft red herrings. In WRONGFUL DEATH, however, she's not strong enough for that much heavy lifting.

Having said that, for the life of me I could not work out why Senior FBI Agent Jessie Dewar. What on earth she was doing there, why she had to be so universally unpleasant, difficult, opinionated, escaped me completely. Unless she was there to be the token out of step foreigner? Still can't get it straight in my own mind. Meanwhile, Anna was invited to the FBI Academy in Virginia for a ten week training course. She had been nominated by Langton after another detective had been unable to go, accompanying him for the special course. But he also told her to get the Reynolds case finalized before she could leave. Really enjoyed this police procedural. Was looking to experience a new author in the mystery genre, when I came across this book in my local library. That said, I enjoyed the characters and the systematic unraveling of the mystery, which is less about who-done-it and more about how-to-prove-it. Langton allows Anna to spend an evening at the ballet with the prime suspect, a handsome actor on the brink of stardom. A discovery at the place where one of the victims lived helps Anna set a trap. Meanwhile, sparks fly between Anna and Langton. I really enjoy the relationship of both characters and now, thanks to the TV dramas I can picture them too !! La Plante is set to release her new Anna Travis book, Wrongful Death, this year. In this book, Travis and Langton are re-opening an old case that was thought to be a suicide.

After leaving school, Lynda La Plante briefly worked as a trainee at a fashion house before moving to London to pursue an acting career. She landed a role in a touring production of the musical Cabaret and later worked as a nightclub hostess to make ends meet. In the early 1970s, she turned to writing, penning episodes of popular British television shows like Z-Cars and The Sweeney. The Travis/Langton history seems to be being rewritten. In the previous book, he not only did something highly illegal and unethical, but he threatened her career if she told anyone, saying he'd make sure everyone believed she was only making these accusations because he'd broken up with her. Langton has been something of a creep in all the books, but to me this showed a level of abuse that couldn't be excused in any way. Oddly, that aspect of the story is now being completely glossed over. When the book starts, body number seven is found, same method, but the killer has killed a sweet young student. Anna finds a piece of information that links the killings to a much loved (not to mention well known) actor.Silent Scream– Hot young British film star Amanda Delany had the world at her feet. Never one for the quiet life, she’d had a string of affairs with famous actors, making perfect fodder for the tabloids… Then came a commission to write a tell-all memoir. When Amanda is found brutally murdered, the suspects are lining up – from jealous ex-flatmates to famous lovers to a corrupt agent. This led to her being a sought after writer and would make her debut in crime fiction writing with “The Legacy” which was released in 1987. From the year 1979 until the year 1996, she was married to Richard La Plante (who is a musician); the marriage ended with the couple getting divorced, after they were married for seventeen years. Lynda La Plante is an award winning and bestselling English novelist and screenwriter. She is best known for her Prime Suspect ITV series starring Jane Tennison. Like the other DI Travis novels I've read (you can read them as stand alone or together), there's a high body count, a lot of red herrings and a lot of police involved. Which adds up to a lot of names to remember in this novel- and very few are recurring characters. The author is fantastic at describing the action, but not that good at describing characters. For example, we know Pete likes a joint and drives a nice car, but very little about his looks and life beyond the lab.

I have two more books to go and then hope we have access to the current (seventh) one in the series. She formed her own television production company, La Plante Productions, in 1994 and as La Plante Productions she wrote and produced the sequel to Widows, the equally gutsy She's Out (ITV, 1995). The name "La Plante" comes from her marriage to writer Richard La Plante, author of the book Mantis and Hog Fever. La Plante divorced Lynda in the early 1990s. DEADLY INTENT is the fourth book in the Anna Travis series, made up of ABOVE SUSPICION, THE RED DAHLIA and CLEAN CUT. It's been a series which I've really enjoyed... up until this book, which I have to say disappointed. Midgley, Neil (12 June 2008). "ITV to reinvent Prime Suspect". The Daily Telegraph. London . Retrieved 25 December 2008. Guest cast in this series include Jason Durr as Alan Daniels; Emma Pollard as Melissa Stephens; and Malcolm Storry as John McDowell. The Daily Telegraph described the series as "Lynda La Plante's younger, sassier successor to Prime Suspect." [3] EpisodeThese are two best books in Anna Travis series by Lynda La Plante, Above Suspicion and The Red Dahlia. DI Anna is part of the team conducting the investigation, and soon DCI James Langton is called in to head the inquiry. It is a year since Anna and James worked together, and the two once had a romantic relationship that went sour since James would not commit. At first, Anna is afraid of working with James that the investigation takes over everything. La Plante writes novels and for the screen (she is most known for “Prime Suspect”, a television series). She has written the “Trial and Retribution” series, the “Jane Tennison” series, the “Legacy” series, the “Dolly Rawlins” series, the “ Anna Travis” series, some short fiction, and some stand alone novels. LYNDA LA PLANTE AWARDS I feel this book is most likely the end of the series. Hope I'm wrong, but that's the impression I have. Langton retires and Anna has a new love interest ... a member of the FBI at Quantico.
