Clay, Diskin (2000). "The Invention of Atlantis: The Anatomy of a Fiction". In Cleary, John J.; Gurtler, Gary M. (eds.). Proceedings of the Boston Area Colloquium in Ancient Philosophy. Vol.15. Leiden: E. J. Brill. pp.1–21. ISBN 978-90-04-11704-4. All this also ignored Plato’s description that the city was wiped out by an earthquake, in a single day, and sank into the Atlantic. What a lot of people forget is that the story of Atlantis is actually a war story where Athens defeats Atlantis. Hübner plugged in the clues—essentially it was like a game of Battleship, [in which] whatever area had the most pegs sinks the battleship, or in this case discovers Atlantis. He theorizes that Atlantis was a little bit south of Casablanca in modern Morocco. The European Space Agency. (2004, November 12). The Richat Structure, Mauritania. ESA. https://www.esa.int/Applications/Observing_the_Earth/The_Richat_structure_Mauritania Besides this structure, you can also visit some tourist attractions nearby, including Ben Amera, Terjit, Diawling National Park, Chinguetti Mosque, and Banc d’Arguin National Park. Is Mauritania’s Richat structure the lost city of Atlantis?

The confrontation is intriguing and raises many issues of which the most basic is the simple question: why has the story of Atlantis – compared with other ancient myths – maintained its popularity for so long? What is the essential attraction of the tale? Shortly after 100 Ma, rhyolitic magma rises through conical fractures causing a violent phreatic volcanic explosion due to the interaction of magma with caldera lake water. This formed the two Southwest and Northwest two eruptive centers or maars in the inner part, and the process reopened the ring fractures that caused a piston-like collapse of the inner part. Needless to say, many speculators believe that the Richat Structure is not merely a geological wonder, unique in the whole world, but the location of the legendary 11,000-year-old city of Atlantis. Here are just a few of the correlations between Atlantis, as described by Plato, and the Richat Structure 1. King Atlas a b Monod, T. (1975). "Three Pebble Deposits in the Mauritanian Adrar (Western Sahara)". Provence Historique. 99: 87–97.With oral story telling, the goal isn’t to transmit daily events but rather the morals, stories and traditions of the people. This was done by a caste of people for whom this was their primary role and often their status in such caste was determined by their ability to convey those stories accurately, where one elder / priest etc making an error would most often be corrected by others. Considering such tellings also tended to include survival critical information aswell such as crop cycles et cetera, errors would result in real penalties for errors. There were a great number of elephants in the island, and there was provision for animals of every kind, both for those who live in lakes and marshes and rivers, and also for those who live in the mountains and on the plains, and therefore for the animal which is the largest and most voracious of them.” The location of the Eye (Athens and Egypt): The Richat Structure is geographically well related to places associated with Plato’s Atlantis. The Mediterranean Sea lies to the north of Africa, and the Atlantean navy is said to have besieged ancient Athens on its shores. Over in north-east Africa lies Egypt, from where Plato apparently received his information (via Solon) about Atlantis. It has also been suggested that Egypt used to be a colony of Atlantis. Thus far, it’s all looking promising. a b Richard-Molard, J. (1952). "The Pseudo-boutonniers of Richat". Gouvernement Général de l'Afrique Occidentale Française Bulletin de la Direction des Mines. 15 (2): 391–401.

This is also an example of ignoring details that don’t fit. Plato also described a canal that ran through all the walls to the inner structure, connecting the rings. No such canal is evident.A recent theory states that the Richat structure formed around 100Ma as the Pangea subcontinent separated, creating Africa, South America, and the Atlantic Ocean. Lithostratigraphy correlation has shown it. During this plate tectonic movement process, massive volcanic activities involved a Cretaceous age complex of alkaline igneous magma. is the sum of years since the war occurred, as is recorded, between the [Atlantean] dwellers beyond the pillars of Heracles [the Strait of Gibraltar] and all that dwelt within them." The canal that runs through all the walls to the inner structure and connects the rings, according to Plato. Source Netto, A.M.; Fabre, J.; Poupeau, G.; Champemmois, M. (1992). "Datations par traces de fissions de la structure circulaire des Richats". Comptes Rendus de l'Académie des Sciences de Paris. 314: 1179–1186. Also, while indeed many of these artifacts have been found on the outermost depression of this structure, they are generally absent in its innermost depressions. In fact, neither recognizable midden deposits, nor man-made structures have been recognized and reported from the Richat Structure so far.

The God Poseidon gave birth to five sets of twins, ten children in total, each one running one of the ten kingdoms. Having twins is a rare occurrence. It just so happens that the highest birth rate of twins on planet Earth is found in Nigeria – very close to Mauritania. A lot of the information from Exodus lines up with things that might have happened during the volcanic eruption: the ten plagues, the sky darkening, the sea turning to blood, locusts. If you compare what happens during a volcanic blast, you can see how the effect of a volcanic blast would get translated into the ten plagues that hit Egypt.

Eldredge, S., & Biek, B. (2021, September 16). Glad you asked: Ice ages – what are they and what causes them? Utah Geological Survey. Retrieved January 19, 2023, from https://geology.utah.gov/map-pub/survey-notes/glad-you-asked/ice-ages-what-are-they-and-what-causes-them You can visit the Richat structure location for tourism, geological, or archaeological studies. However, being expansive, you may not have a good visible impression. Also, being in a desert, conditions are extreme and sandy. So, don’t expect a luxurious trip. Wagner also puts forward some other interesting claims, including that many elephant bones have been found near the Eye, in line with Plato’s report of an abundance of elephants, and many other animals, on Atlantis (we at Earthly Mission could not find any traces of that evidence online), or that fresh water flowed from the center island of Atlantis, which also exists in the center circle of the Richat Structure (evidence is also hardly available in this regard). Once in Ouadane, you can use a good-conditioned 4×4 jeep or go for a hot air balloon or an airplane ride for a bird’s view, but it will cost you more. There is no restriction, but you should visit during the day. Another thing from the markings on the sands is that there was once rushing water. When looking at the area on Google Earth, you can see the direction the water went, many believe the marks show there was once a gigantic tsunami, which may be what wiped out Atlantis. Furthermore, the sands of the Sahara Desert actually come from the ocean, and the groundwater around the Richat Structure is saltwater down to 200 meters, despite being so far from the ocean. There have also been unfossilized whale bones found near the structure and many seashells are found there. The only mention of Atlantis by name in historical texts is in Plato’s Dialogues (written around 360 B.C.), which gives dozens of precise details about what Atlantis looked like, and where it may have been located in relation to other landmarks in the ancient world. It was this level of detail that has set many people off thinking that Atlantis actually existed. Jimmy makes a lot out of the surrounding geography, that there were mountains to the north, the city was surrounded by flat plains, and opened to the Atlantic ocean to the south. There are mountains to the north, but this is hardly an amazing match. Surrounded by flat plains is not much of a precise description – surrounded by how much, and what kind of geography? The Richat is in the Sahara, so there is desert sands where there aren’t mountains, but they are not plains, nor is it surrounded. These ancient structures may hold the key to our evolving consciousness, access to other dimensions of space and time, and our ability to transform our reality. Matias De Stefano, host of Gaia’s original series, Initiation recalls details of the Atlantean civilization from his own memories and describes the technology they would have used to build the pyramids. The ten reasons set out above provide much food for thought, although further research is needed in nearly all the areas being referred to. And, for balance, here’s some reasons why the Eye of the Sahara may not have been Atlantis as described by Plato… Reasons for Atlantis not being in the Sahara Regarding the YouTube channel’s primary ‘piece of evidence’, according to which the Richat structure is a series of concentric rings that precisely matches Plato’s description of Atlantis, Novela points out that the simple fact that both are concentric rings is not unlikely at all, and since the rings are not discrete and not complete in places, it’s unclear how water would have filled the structure.
