While the Shiba family may have fallen in status, Hisagi notes they're still powerful and influential. Kūkaku replies that she only sent Ichigo's group towards the Palace, and redirects Hisagi towards her brother, Ganju Shiba, for more details. Harribel, however, recognizes Ikomikidomoe as an ancient and powerful Hollow from Baraggan Louisenbairn's time as ruler, leading her to wonder how that Hollow wound up as a Zanpakutō in Soul Society. Later, in a top-secret, sacred meeting place for the Noble Families, Yoruichi, Byakuya, and Tokinada meet around a conference table. After some tense banter, Yoruichi gets to the point and asks why Tokinada summoned them here, a meeting place that has not been used for two generations. Tokinada says that, due to the recent Quincy war, he feels the Royal Guard and especially the Soul King have become too isolated and complacent, and that such things need to change. When Byakuya criticizes his controversial opinion, Tokinada counters by taunting Byakuya about his actions during Rukia's execution. He goes further by insulting Hisana, but when Yoruichi get angry at him for it, Byakuya interjects. [12] The Quincy Thousand Year Blood War is over, but the embers of turmoil still smolder in Soul Society. Tokinada Tsunayashiro, elevated to head of his clan after a slew of assassinations take out every other claimant to the title, has a grand plan to create a new Soul King. His dark ambitions soon sow the seeds of a new total war across the realms, but all is not lost. Meanwhile, in a coffee shop in the Human World, the remaining female Sternritter are hanging around while an energetic Bambietta exclaims her frustration at how the others fared without her leadership. While Candice is confused at how lively the zombified Quincy is, Giselle explains that the large amounts of blood shed by Tokinada was surprisingly useful for her to heal Bambietta further. [11] As the Great War between the Shinigami and Quincy, that spanned a thousand years, has finally come to an end due to the deaths of both kings, a new dawn of peace for both sides is ushered in. Despite this, neither side knew the full truth; that both kings were killed by the same being, someone who was neither Shinigami nor Quincy. Due to this, the truth of the Soul King's demise was kept a secret to everyone except for a few of the highest ranked Shinigami. Even though the Seireitei was being restored and the Shinigami regained hope after their supposed victory in "The Great Soul King Protection War", the choice to keep the truth from everyone would have severe consequences in the following decades or even centuries.

Tokinada reveals that Urahara created the Hōgyoku as a means of transforming other beings into potential Soul King candidates, hence why it was capable of stabilizing Hollowfied Soul Reapers, creating and augmenting Arrancar, and empowering Fullbringers. However, Aizen was the only user who managed to attain a transcendental form.

Meanwhile, in Karakura Town, Mizuiro Kojima, Keigo Asano, and Ryūnosuke Yuki find themselves fleeing from a crab-like Hollow. Mizuiro manages to temporarily incapacitate the Hollow with a device given to him by Ururu Tsumugiya, before they are saved by the arrival of Shino Madarame, who slays the Hollow with her naginata-like Shikai. When Shino chastises Yuki, Keigo mentions that Shino looks familiar to him, and she recognizes him as someone her relative Ikkaku Madarame used to talk about. [9] Big Bad: Tokinada Tsunayashiro, the leader of one of the Five Noble Families, as well as the Soul Reaper who married and later killed Tōsen's friend Kakyō. He's a smug, arrogant, self-entitled asshole who indulges his cruellest whims out of the belief that Soul Society is built on a foundation of lies; presently seeks to cause chaos, anarchy, and destruction by revealing the existence of Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, and the spirit-worlds to the World of the Living. His eventual goal is actually revealed to be to have an artificial child, who obeys his every command without hesitation, replace the current Soul King, effectively making him the ruler of Soul Society, the human realm, and Hueco Mundo.

[9] Ancestral Weapon: Like the Ise clan's Shinken Hakkyōke, the Tsunayashiro clan has a hereditary Zanpakuto that any of the members can utilize in addition to their personal Zanpakuto; being Kuten Kyōkoku — the true name of which is Enrakyoten, which possesses the ability to copy any Zanpakuto abilities its wielder witnesses.The fate of the Fullbringers, both alive and dead, are finally shown: In the World of the Living, Yukio is using his parents' corporation to gather Fullbringers from around the world, while a Fullbringer named Aura Michibane has reformed Xcution into a religious cult exploiting the panic caused by Yhwach's attempted destruction of the cosmos; while the dead Fullbringers were taken in by the Shiba family under Kukaku, though Mayuri wishes to capture and vivisect them. Meanwhile, in the Seireitei, Tokinada has retreated to the Tsunayashiro mansion, laughing at his foresight to install miniature Tenkai Kecchu in the replica palace in case he needed an escape route. While grievously injured, Tokinada believes that if he goes in hiding for a while he will have the time to heal. However, just as he enters the throne room of the mansion, he senses the chilling presence of another person inside. Tokinada initially wonders if either Suì-Fēng or Byakuya has penetrated the defenses, and is amused at these turn of events. [10] Broad Strokes: Some elements of the filler are mentioned to be canon, like the existence of Muramasa. Though the events of fillers themselves are not. Ikkaku tries to direct Hisagi towards Mayuri for further questions, but Hisagi reveals that the captain has refused all his requests for interviews. Yumichika then remembers that Hanatarō was present as well, and suggests Hisagi asks him about it. [10]

At the Tsunayashiro residence, Tokinada is about to leave for an important meeting, when he is approached by several assassins. Noting that the assassins came for him as Hikone was incapacitated, Tokinada reminisces about his own Zanpakutō, which has been confiscated since his initial incarceration. Regardless, he reveals that he has been using his family's ancestral Zanpakutō without permission for some time now, and decides to release it. As he faces the assassins, he releases his Shikai, Kuten-kyōkoku. [12]While Hisagi still feels ashamed, especially when Tōsen reveals that he lasted only half an hour, he also realizes that he is one of the first people to experience Tōsen's recently unveiled Bankai, which Tōsen wanted to use to help Hisagi experience and confront his fears. However, Tōsen notes that while Hisagi certainly has fear in him, he cannot properly wield that fear, which Hisagi feels ashamed of. Tōsen muses on the nature of fear and how it is natural to fear the unknown world around oneself before asserting that to be truly fearless makes one neither a Shinigami, Human, or Hollow, but rather an inhuman demon. [8] Ichibē prepares to leave as well, saying that he should revive the remaining Royal Guard members. Ichibē explains that, since their bones are infused with the Ōken, the Royal Guard members' very life essence is fused with the Soul King Palace. As long as the palace remains intact, Ichibē can revive the others by calling their names. While Ichibē mentions that he will not allow the rest of his squad to die easily, as is their fate, he suddenly becomes distracted as he senses someone has entered the palace without permission. [5]
