About this deal

Your standard roll-offs are going to be focused on combat and damage is then calculated by the difference between the two scores. You suffer wounds equal to the difference and mark it down on your warband sheet.

Additionally, the mechanics and the way they’ve been put together favour those who want to not only have fun but also delve into a system which reinforces the narrative rather than divorcing yourself from it. Yes, there’s maths there, but the game is more than just the numbers and offers you up so many opportunities to tell an interesting story rather than just bashing models together. Medium Birds are fairly average, but d8 Nimbleness and Flight makes them good at avoiding missile fire and redeploying across the tabletop. But I can’t resist fiddling with it. Just like any wargamer, generally, you’re always thinking about house rules and how you’d change things and it’s sort of even worse when it’s mine because I kind of can, you know what I mean? I probably shouldn’t, but I can. And so I’ve got to be a bit careful, particularly with a new edition, to make sure I don’t just change things for the sake of changing things because clearly people like the game as it is. And if something’s working, there’s not really any point changing it. Bits that I’m definitely going to change, there’s like the ambush, hiding in ambush rules, that’s got to change. Because it technically works, but it also confuses everyone to the point where some people are just like, “Oh no, we don’t use that,” and that’s a shame. If it’s a bit that people aren’t using, then I’ve obviously written it badly so that’s going to get a complete overhaul. But it’s just bits like that. The rest of it, hopefully it’ll stay the same and just be tidied up. Squirrels are reasonable with Fortitude based magic, and their d8 Nimbleness and Concealment keeps them fairly safe from missile fire and makes them decent as sneaky ambushers.

Carnevale blends cinematic, acrobatic duels with Lovecraftian cosmic horror in historical Venice. | Image credit: Nic Reuben Oathsworn, are the creators behind the Burrows & badgers miniatures & figurines, which are anthropomorphic animal characters armed with swords, axes, clubs and bows. These miniatures are also clad in characterful armour that appears to be inspired from dark age England and Europe.

So, that’s the beasts of Northymbra; what about the Allegiances? Well, you’ve got Royalists, Rogues, Freebeasts and Wildbeasts to choose from, and each brings its own benefits to the Warband. Of the two games, Frostgrave has been around a lot longer, so is more content-rich as far as expansions go. But generally, it's all about which flavour of excuse for people shooting lasers from their hands you prefer. Yeah, I just started with the local area, basically. Because I’m from the northeast of England and we’ve kind of always lived here and I just like the region, so we just started with what’s basically the old Northumbria, Kingdom of Northumbria. So from the Humber up to kind of Scotland and we just set the game there, basically. At the beginning of a campaign, this helps you decide on the direction you want to take your warband and might also dictate which animals join your employ.Games of Burrows & Badgers are played out on tables that range from 2x2 all the way up to 4x4. The designers actually recommend the idea of a 2x4 table as it means that depending on deployment you’ll find yourself playing utterly different games. Do you find yourself needing to change the minis, even if you’re happy with them, just so that they can be cast? Tortoises (specifically the Hermann’s tortoise, which is the only type we’ve sculpted so far!) are very capable tanks; armour them up, give them a shield, and they’ll absorb a lot of hits without too much harm.

Michael mentioned in the comments that they often clear out infestations of larvae, beetles, cave spiders and other mindless beasts. Perhaps they might end up running into a deadly Stag Beetle Grub that has invaded the sewers and is scaring off the local populace. As well as fighting you can do all manner of other things during your turn. You can Sprint around, Cast Spells, Search for hidden objects and Hide as well.

There are a few elements of the model I'm not entirely sold on like the eyes but I think that it matches what I've done so far within the collection so that is a plus! And some people just love collecting miniatures; again, we've made this new set of Burrows & Badgers figures perfect for collectors. They are all single piece models, with integral bases, so there are no fiddly parts to be glued on. It definitely seems like a successful project then! Has it surpassed any expectations you had for it going in? Burrows and Badgers is basically Redwall: The Miniatures Game, and is as fantastic to play and lovely to look at as that sounds. | Image credit: Osprey GamesTheir skill and craft have come together to create this unique set of figurines that can either be used for the Burrows & Badgers skirmish game or for your own RPG. Townwatch Mouse Miniature Well Michael, thank you so much for taking the time to sit down and speak with me today, unfortunately I think that’s really all the time we’ve got right now, I know we could easily go on for a few hours more.
