About this deal

Although the paving sand with weed killer is a little more expensive to buy initially than normal kiln dried sand. Buying the weed killing jointing sand should in the long-term help save you both time and money on maintaining you paving. It saves you money and time by not having to buy expensive weed killers. It is therefore important that you filled your joints in a height of 4 cm when you first applied DANSAND® NO GROW™ in 2021. Likewise, it is important that you have are maintaining your joints on a regular basis, making sure that they are always completely filled. The joint material must not be used in the joint directly against a plinth or other masonry. Use neutral joint filling sand here, as otherwise there is a risk of efflorescence or peeling Paving stones must be laid on a sustainable gravel and sand layer in accordance with current standards for paving work. The joint material is water-permeable like ordinary joint sand. Therefore, the base layer must also be water-permeable. Repointing DANSAND® NO GROW™ Joint Filling Sand has been developed to prevent weeds, but it is not a weed killer. The product consists of washed and oven-dried silica sand, to which we have added a natural mineral. The mineral increases the pH-value and the ZAR value of the silica sand, creating an “unfriendly” environment that does not provide nourishment for weed plants. Hence, a weed seed that finds its way to your joint and tries to set roots here, will dry out after a short time.

Compact the joints using a vibrating plate - do this at least twice. Use a protective rubber mat to protect the paving. The NO GROW mixture consists of washed and dried silica sand as well as nutrient-poor minerals with a high pH value. The high pH value causes weed seeds to dry out so that they cannot take root and germinate – in a completely natural way. The minerals dissolve slowly and can only be washed out after 10 years of rain. With the correct use of DANSAND ® joint filling sand, you get a great result that lasts for many years. The content of the bag should be mixed before sweeping the material into the joints otherwise the binders will not be mixed with the silica sand. Maybe some of your joints have hardened and some of them have not? If so, the binders have probably not been mixed with the silica sand. Estimated consumption: Approx. 2,0 kg/m 2 at 3 mm joints. Our coverage calculator can help you calculate the amount you need. For new and existing paved surfaces of concrete and natural stone. Only to be used for outdoor use on a dry surface. Only suitable for an unbound base layer. Suitable for private use. Estimated consumption: 20 kg for approximately 5-10 m 2. For 14x21x5 cm paving stones with a joint width of 2–3 mm = 2.0 kg / m 2. Our coverage calculator helps you calculate the consumption of joint filling material. The filling depth must be at least 40 mm. The joint width must vary between 1-5 mm.Try to save any left over sand for future use in areas of paving you may have missed or is lost due to wind and rain. Sweep the paving surface with a soft broom until clear of all excess stone dust. The stone dust may leave a grayish residue which will wash off when it rains.

During joint filling and during the first days of hardening, the air and soil temperature must be at least 10 ° C. If you use the filling material for coloured, porous pavings, it may settle in small depressions in the stones, leading to discolouring. This can often be removed with a brush and some soap – see how in our cleaning guidelines. There’s also the benefit of Dansand No Grow’s natural weed-preventing abilities to account for, meaning you won’t need to fork out on a coat of patio sealer to fully protect your paving from unwanted organic pests and moss growth. Environmentally friendly Dansand No Grow is widely available from many popular DIY and hardware retailers, commonly found in 20kg bags that should cover around 5-10 square metres each.Sweep the filling material into the joints using a soft broom. Sweep lengthwise and diagonally on the joints until they are completely filled. This allows for targeted protection only from unwanted plant life, with the surrounding flowers and bushes in your garden and around your paving installation completely free from environmentally unsafe chemicals or growth-inhibiting compounds. Problems we are sorry to learn that you had a bad experience using DANSAND® NO GROW™. As we understand, you applied NO GROW in 2021. However, you do not specify which exact NO GROW product you were using. In the below answer, we will be assuming that you have used DANSAND® NO GROW™ Joint Filling Sand.

Finish by lightly dampening the sand with water by misting with a garden sprayer to allow the sand to settle. To avoid weeds and displacements in the coating, the joint must always be filled to the full height of the joint edge and be completely free of soil and other organic material. The coating is cleaned with a stiff broom and the joints are refilled as needed. Moss and algae can be removed by suitable means. Extreme weather conditions can cause white blooms in the joints and on the edges of the paving stones. However, they are usually washed off at the next rain shower. The salt deposits can also be removed by regular cleaning of the stones. Sweep the filling materials into the joints using a soft broom. Sweep in a diagonal pattern until the joints are filled to the top.The ultimate goal is to AID water flow towards the house which has ACO drains around the edge to run the water away rather than have it spill into the gaps and into the ground around the house, missing the drains. Although Dansand No Grow is more expensive up front than your average dry jointing sand, the long-lasting benefit of its hardened seal offers good value for money. We recommend a joint height of min. 4 cm when filling your joints to ensure that the roots of the seed do not have enough time to find nourishment, as it will dry out before then. The first option is to replace any lost sand as & when needed with Dansand. Simply put, instead of using ordinary kiln dried joint sand next time you just re-sand the joints of your pavers with Dansand. Also, the weather and substarate should be dry for the joints to harden completely. The joints do not withstand rain whitin the first 24 hours after pointing. Maybe this is the case?
