About this deal

While this was a pretty unique situation, this pink drip cake is perfect for so many other occasions!

When using a stand mixer, I like to use the paddle attachment with a low speed for the cake batter and a medium speed for the buttercream.

Swap the plain all-purpose flour for self-raising flour and reduce the baking powder to only 1 tsp.

This pink velvet cake starts off with a white velvet cake base recipe. This allows you to get a gorgeous clean pink color, as opposed to starting off with a yellow cake using whole eggs - giving you more of an orange color when you add pink to it. Yes you can use a natural pink food coloring, but when the cake layers bake it might change color! The heat and acid in the cake batter can change the color, especially if it has anthocyanins. Food coloring made from beets can change color when baked and especially paired with an acid. All you need are a few piping bags and piping tips. Since I had 3 colors, I used 3 piping bags. A large bag with a large piping tip for the darker pink color (I used a coupler so I could witch out the piping tips easily), a small piping bag with the end cut off for the white frosting, and a small piping bag with a small open star tip for the pale pink frosting. Wait to color the buttercream pink with gel food coloring until you've filled and crumb coated the cake. The white buttercream will create a pretty contrast with the pink cake layers.

Since I'm absolutely not a fan of motif cakes, however, I created a pink girl cake without fondant that any reasonably amateur baker can recreate without any problems. The girls' birthday cake consists of several layers of cake, made wonderfully moist with Greek yogurt. Or for another Halloween colour, give this matcha buttercream or orange buttercream a try – gives your cake a deliciously spooky green or orange colour!

To make sure you nail this drip look, it’s imperative that you chill your cake, and do a test drip.Egg whites: Whites instead of whole eggs with yolks keep the cake a pale white color. This allows you to get a gorgeous pink color. If you use whole eggs, the yellow yolks will interfere with the pink color, creating more of an orange-pink color. Buttermilk– You can also use full fat yogurt, sour cream, whole milk, or an alternative yogurt or milk (almond, soy, oat) if you’re dairy free. Forgot to get a cake? How about baking a birthday surprise cake with spilling sweets. Easy to prepare, it’s sure to be hit with the kids. Just don’t forget to top it off with some birthday candles to make it official. Cupcakes

Just as I have finished the buttercream I carefully press in some rainbow sprinkles to the bottom of the cake for a bit of colour and I just love the design – be warned, sprinkles will fall off at this point so beware! After this, I chill the cake again! Use heavy cream or heavy whipping cream! You need the high fat content to create the right consistency in this recipe. Milk cannot be used in place of the cream.Whatever look you chose for your pink drip cake, I have two very important tips to ensure you get the look you’re after. Tip #1: Chill Your Cake This cake gets its color from pink gel food coloring, and I also used a touch of red to help create the darker pink piping. Add in a generous squirt of pink gel food coloring. Mix the batter on a low speed, scraping the sides and bottom of the bowl part way through to evenly color the batter.
