It's super sharp at every setting clear out to the corners, although just a little less sharp in the corners at f/1.8 at 18mm. It's still sharp in the corners at f/1.8 at 18mm, just that everything else is so sharp that this is the only minor imperfection I can find.

Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 DC Art HSM Lens Product Videos:

Sigma provides as many focus distance markings as can reasonably be fit into the space available for them in the window. In this box sits the lens inside a plastic bag which sits with the hood inside the case. The case is the padding - there is no foam.

The Canon EOS R5 is, however, smarter than the 5D. The R5 recognizes the Sigma 18-35mm’s crop factor and automatically changes its Cropping/Aspect Ratio setting to “1.6x (crop)”. APS-C lenses automatically enable “1.6x (crop)”. All other options disabled. The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens has very smooth, perfectly-damped and ideally-sized zoom and focus rings that have no play in them. As can be seen in the dial control image above, this lens can create a very strong blur at 35mm if the subject is close and the aperture is wide. Flare slowly increases as the aperture narrows until becoming noticeable at f/8 and by f/16, strong flaring is obvious. Being long on the wide end and short on the long end, 18-35mm still works well for many landscape photography uses.

In this set of evaluations, we’ve compared the Sigma zoom with the highest performing full-frame primes of the same focal lengths – 18mm, 24mm and 35mm. While it might seem a little unusual, the lenses (all high speed models) reflect the state of the art in that format and when mounted on an APS-C DSLR offer the same angle of view (at each focal length) as the Sigma. Nikon 35mm f/1.8 DX for a fraction of the price. On Canon, the classic professional Canon 35mm f/1.4 L is a steal today, and a much better long-term investment than this consumer zoom.On the test charts and using the Datacolor SpyderLensCal, the 18-35 f/1.8 focused very accurately with excellent consistently. I saw no coma with this aspherical lens! Whoo hoo; coma has always been the weak point of fast wide zoom lenses, and Sigma made it go away. As you can see in this photo, points of light stay as points. Bravo! Close-up image quality isn't bad either, at least when stopped down a bit. The image is soft wide open, but sharpens up pretty well in the centre at F2.8. The corners rather lag behind, but continue to improve on stopping down until our flat test chart shot looks sharp corner-to-corner at F11. There's minimal distortion, and only the slightest hint of blue/yellow chromatic aberration. Colour balance

Of course, from a high resolution camera, a subject captured at 0.23x magnification can be printed or displayed at many times life size. Featuring Sigma's HSM (Hypersonic Motor) driven AF, the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens focuses with very good speed. One problem we might expect to see, given the lens's sheer physical length, is shadowing of the built-in flash at wideangle. This is indeed visible; on recent SLRs like the Canon EOS 700D, which lift the flash quite high above the lens, we saw some shadowing right at the bottom edge of the frame at focus distances. At the distances you'd most likely use the flash (~2 metres) it's pretty minor though, and effectively disappears if you zoom in a little bit, to just 20mm.
