When Grandma says she’s seen a tiger in the garden, Nora doesn’t believe her. She’s too old to play grandma’s silly games! Everyone knows that tigers live in jungles, not gardens. So even when Nora sees dragonflies as big as birds, and plants that try and eat her toy giraffe, and a polar bear that likes fishing, she knows there’s absolutely, DEFINITELY no way there could be a tiger in the garden . . . Could there? Working closely with Lizzy Stewart, this is the first time the book has been presented as a piece of live theatre by this new, local company. This large format picture book is destined to be a classic. Physically, the book is gorgeous. The front cover is tactile with the writing and images raised, instantly encouraging the prospective reader to feel it with their open hand. Inside the illustrations include a mix of drawing and collage, in bright colours. The plot outline and beautiful illustrations will never date. Nora is such a character. Determined not to have fun or find anything of interest in the garden, her outlook turns completely around. I love the discussions we have had after reading this book; Mr D in particular is unsure if the tiger is real or not… and I love that he is at this stage of his comprehension at the moment too where he can ask questions and I can help aid his understanding of the story. The story touches on some lovely philosophical ideas which can be challenging for adults let alone children to consider, but it does so in such a gentle way.If and when the weather brightens up I plan to set up a little hunt for the children in our own garden – I’m going to get a picture of dragonflies, a polar bear and a tiger and make into a jigsaw; hiding the pieces around out garden for them to find; although the way our weather is at the moment that could be some time away! It would also be a good story time book for the young set with opportunities for audience input when they see things in the visual narrative Nora doesn’t. The afternoon before Mr H arrived I did a craft activity with Mr D and Miss E based on a new favourite books of ours – the wonderful There’s a Tiger in the Garden by Lizzy Stewart. For the dragonflies I got out various crafty items, tissue paper, sequins and the such and drew some very rough dragonflies for the children to decorate. They had great fun adding the bits and pieces to them and decorating them up. Nora, when visiting her grandma, suffers a severe case of boredom. Encouraged by grandma to explore outside on the pretext that she believes there to be a tiger living in the garden. Doubtful of this, young Nora and her toy giraffe, Jeff, nevertheless embark on an adventure which sees them encounter carnivorous plants, dragonflies, a grumpy polar bear, and the fabled tiger. 'Extraordinarily friendly' and polite, the tiger and Nora become firm friends once the latter has convinced herself that he is indeed real. Bored at home with nothing to do, Nora is sent out to play in the garden in search of a tiger. Have your imaginations at the ready as our story unfolds and we see Nora’s world grow around her. Join Nora as she discovers dragonflies as big as her head, plants that can eat you whole, a polar bear that likes fishing and maybe, just possibly, a tiger in the garden. On an already prepared garden mural, children can draw on separate paper, or cut from magazines, picture of animals to place on scene to make a collage. If you don’t have a lot of space, you can even grow these wildflowers in pots. We recommend you choose one that’s at least 30 cm wide to give them enough space to thrive.

My Busy Green Garden Tilbury House Nature Book written by Terry Pierce and has been published by Tilbury House Publishers and Cadent Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-01-31 with Juvenile Nonfiction categories. Imagination is at the heart of this book and, in my experience, year two children ably entertain two understandings of its content, one in which they interpret the tiger as real, and another in which he is a product of Nora's (and grandma's) imagination; visual clues as to the origin of the more exotic characters abound in the illustrations and suggest the tiger is in fact grandma's ginger cat and the polar bear a soft toy, while, inevitably, the carnivorous plants are innocuous bushes. The book encourages children to use their powers of observation and imagination, and they readily engage with the story and its message. The book is all about a little girl who plays in her Grandma’s garden, not believing the creatures that live there, until she of course meets them. Since this book arrived we have read it many times and the children love it. Pull the pin and throw or drop Seedboms into areas that are in need of brightening up.
