About this deal

It claims to use high speed CPU and artificial intelligence for better connectivity. I can feel it with seamless connectivity. The only other feature is a single light on the top that glows in different colours and flashes in a variety of patterns to indicate the node’s status. However, it falls into a slightly awkward middle-ground between the cheaper but faster and easier to setup BT Whole Home, and more expensive but even faster and more capable alternatives such as the Netgear Orbi and Linksys Velop. It’s not a bad option but as a latecomer to the mesh shin-dig, it hasn’t brought a good enough party favour to out-do the other guests. Going from a single router with a smattering of powerline gear to the Deco M5 was a revelation. The network may not be super fast, but it does work, and affords total house coverage seamlessly - with connected devices jumping between the various Deco M5 unitss as needed.

In contrast, the Orbi boasts AC3000 Wi-Fi speeds, the BT Whole Home has AC2500 and the Velop has AC2200. As such, for raw speed the Deco is someway behind its rivals, though by the very nature of distrubuted Wi-Fi systems, this isn’t always noticeable in conventional tests. It didn't matter if I started my connection close to the router and moved away (green) or if I connected far from the router and moved closer (yellow). Performance was just as strong either way, which is a very good result. Ry Crist/CNET

Firstly, high-quality gadgets and technology products tend to be more reliable. This means that they are less likely to break down or malfunction. When you’re relying on a product for an important task, such as work or communication, reliability is key. Investing in a high-quality TP-LINK TP-LINK DECO S7 3 1480 can give you peace of mind and help you avoid frustrating situations where your device fails you. Indeed, on the Deco M5 M5 units there’s a single LED at the centre of the unit that lets you know everything you need to about its current status: red means there’s a problem, orange and blue only appear when it’s being set up and green indicates that everything is working as intended. No online mode (you can’t login to your deco away from home and can be only accessed if you are connected to same wifi) – Fixed in latest update

I was even able to get wifi 2 houses apart (50-60 feet away) and was usuable as well (speed was about 2-10mbps with 1 bar) No manual band assigning for devices (Some devices which should be using 5Ghz isn’t and goes to 2.4Ghz. Should have an option to assign per device band and this helps with Media device not falling into 2.4Ghz.)

Individually these would be enough to pique our interest, but together they make for a great combo that is only slightly let down by the top-line throughput. Inside, each unit comprises a quad-core processor and four internal antennas, for claimed throughput speeds of up to 400Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and 867Mbps on the 5GHz band.
