About this deal

When you inspect a wallpaper label sometimes there will be a symbol relating to the removal technique for that wallpaper. Knowing what strategy must be used to remove your wallpaper at a later date will save you a lot of time and effort in the long run. There are three main wallpaper removal techniques.

This wallpaper hanging pattern is often seen on plainer wallpapers. It requires each strip of wallpaper to be hung in the reverse of the other. This prevents shading on plainer wallpapers. Identified with an angled line to represent wallpaper being removed with a small stripper symbol. Wet removable wallpaper can only be removed from the wall with a liquid solution such as a wallpaper stripping agent or by soaking the wallpaper with water. You will then use a scraper to remove the wallpaper.Light fastness is simply the degree to which your wallpaper will keep its colour in sunlight. Naturally any wallpaper and even some material if exposed to direct sunlight over a few years will lose colour. Light fastness gives you an idea of which wallpaper will last longer in areas of higher sun concentration and which are best used on walls and in rooms with less direct sunlight. Two wavy lines one on top of the other is the identifier for a washable wallpaper. It is a more durable finish than spongeable but also requires gentle cleaning and no chemicals or cleaning fluids. If you have too much water in your sponge or cloth then you can cause tears in the wallpaper.

Multiply the number of drops by the height of the wall and you get the metres needed for your wall excluding the wallpaper pattern repeat. Most of you are not wallpaper symbol experts and yet, every wallpaper you will ever see, will have their specifications and properties communicated in the form of a standardised set of symbols. As it is crucial that you follow a wallpaper’s instructions, we’ve created this handy post to help you identify and understand what each symbol stands for. Hover over each symbol in this post to identify it. Washability Rating Extra Washable– The symbol formed from three wavy lines identifies the paper as extra washable. This wallpaper can be used in kitchens and bathrooms as it is more resilient to damper environments. However, please do remember that it is not waterproof so must be kept away from direct water sources such as an area that may be affected by splashing water. Basically, don’t hang it next to a shower or sink. Step 1: To cut the required lengths. Measure the drop from the ceiling or coving to the floor allowing approximately 50mm or 2 inch at both ends for trimming.Random pattern match: When the wallpaper pattern is random, you don't need to worry about matching any pattern at all. For obvious reasons, random patterns are great for beginners. No matter how you position the paper the pattern still looks good. A great example of a random pattern match is a texture, such as grasscloth, or a stripe.

These symbols show the cleaning method(s) the wallpaper can withstand , r anging from spongeable to extra- scrubbable . T hese symbols also reveal how durable the wallpaper is. Because there are so many different wallcovering patterns with varying lengths of patterns and intended designs, it is necessary to hang them differently based on the type of pattern on the wallpaper. What you may not have realized is that each of these patterns falls into one of two primary matching types. The term match refers to how you align the wallpaper with each new strip. Add this figure to the metres needed without the pattern repeat and you get the final amount of metres for covering your wall.Every wallpaper has a washability grading which indicates the water resistance and washability of the wallpaper. There are various methods of safe cleaning that will be indicated by one of the below symbols on your wallpaper label. These are also indicators of how gentle you need to be when applying the wallpapers. If you end up getting some of the spongeable/washable wallpapers too wet with paste/have paste on the front of the wallpaper during applicationyou need to handle them carefully and clean gently. Reverse Alternate Lengths - Reverse hang is a method that is often seen with plain or lightly textured wallpaper and it is the process of placing adjacent strips in alternating directions. Ultimately, every other strip is reversed in direction. The reason why plain wallpaper might have to be reverse hung is to prevent shading. Ready mixed paste is available in 2.5kg containers which will cover approximately 25 meters of wallpaper, 5kg containers which covers approx 5 rolls or a 10kg tub which covers approx 10 rolls. How do I hang conventional or ‘regular’ wallpaper?
