About this deal

Without looking like any masterpiece, but if it seems remarkable, because of what I mentioned before and because unlike many of his time, like 1 Million, Kokorico is balanced in all its phases. The top of the composition features refreshing fig leaves, which provide energy, the heart is filled with raw cocoa, which stimulates (not the artificially sweet kind, but a natural extract), while woody notes of patchouli, cedar and vetiver express their masculinity and power. Don't blind buy this one. I really like and enjoy it, but it is not the charismatic guy everybody likes, it's the bold one that says 'this is me, whether you like it or not', only few people will love, not like him. I haven't tested the original, and got a bottle of this fragrance (50 ml) for 19 euros at Sephora (well, not really a good sign for its future I'm afraid this is going to be discontinued soon).

The next week, I was compelled to visit the Kokorico tester again. Will it smell like bananas and rum this time? It did! And more like figs and more like cocoa once the opening transitioned into the dry-down (a 2-5 minute process.) And that squeaky note? Vetiver. I looked it up on Fragrantica on my cellphone and suddenly I could notice all 5 of the notes quite clearly (which kind of supports my theory that many of the notes we think we smell can just be the psychology of suggestion.) One drop from the Apo was enough to wrap me in a transparent aura, well perceptible even the next morning, but not slaying, not too dense. Like xoxoMyke, I get patchouli in this too. I was one of the notes I mentally flagged the first time I wore this fragrance. I was surprised to see that patchouli wasn’t one of the notes they used in KN. The fragrance, in turn, is very good. According to the manufacturer, opens with cocoa beans (slightly bitter) and fig leaves, bringing a mix of energy with aphrodisiac flair. Then, notes of patchouli in the heart and, finally, woody nuances of cedar and vetiver. At that time I was not prepared for this dry, raw and bitter creation. It smelt strange but not in a way i found comfortable. Since then i have sprayed Kokorico randomly and just did it now again. It is excellent. The fragrance is all about the cocoa with the fig and patchouly exaggerating the raw greenness of the composition. It's still not a love, but i cannot deny its quality and the fact that i like it more and more.

Otherwise I cannot explain the warm spice, the dark dense low, the tender scratching, the "Kokorico" on my woman's skin exudes after an almost two lashes long prelude of watery light green, latent fruit. Off skin and in the air, it's a different story. After a 5 second burst of pungency, it goes to a shaving cream like vibe and progresses to show cocoa facets further on. The cocoa is partnered by a hefty dose of greenness owing to fig leaf and patchouli. The drydown is almost entirely patchouli. This fragrance is original in its way, quite different, I can understand some won't enjoy it, but calling it THE WORST? that's just gratuituous bashing IMHO !

The uniqueness of the fragrance, design of the bottle, and coupled with outstanding deal, Kokorico deserves a shot. The bigger message - it is OK to be different - it is what makes the "world go around". If the longevity and projection/sillage were greater, this would be a first class fragrance. All things considered, I still highly recommend adding to your collection. At Beauty Base, we are the home of premier fragrances for men and women. Here we have a superb range of men’s fragrances to appeal to all men, whatever their preference. It is possible that this fragrance was reformulated because it seems to have been extremely polarizing earlier. Also, I really find no similarities to LIDGE - fact which also might support the reformulation hypothesis. It's like you spilled yourself with a mixture of cacao and alcohol, adding some way too masculine spices (sharp, green, unpleasant type of vetiver). And the fig leaf is the missing weed note for the terrible explosion.

What I don't like is, that this fragrance has an androgynous vibe (in a bad way). It's too masculine of the spices because of the sharp vetiver/fig leaf/cedar notes, but also too feminine because of the edible cacao. I don't know how's this possible.. The fact is, I as a female wouldn't wear it, but I also definetly would not introduce this scent to my boyfriend. And we're both spicy orintal/gourmand lovers. Kokorico is, in my opinion, a cologne of few surprises, in gourmand style, but isn't that sweet thanks to the base notes, which give a dry tone to the final aroma. It fits very well in colder climates or nighttime events. When I first sprayed this I thought "Wow, it's so peculiar!" Nothing like I've smelt before. It's dark and bitter. Woody and pungent. After it dried down, a bitter cocoa note emerged and I was starting to like it. The opening notes can be very intrusive and I would imagine not everyone would be into this. I would say this one is an acquired taste. Don't listen to the haters on this one, which I respect their point-of-views. This is one that will not be off putting too after a couple minutes. How many more powdery chocolate woody smells can we have without anything new being added to the conversation?" Kokorico" is linear and only changes slightly after 20mt after apply, where an anise-like iris (and maybe lavender?) shows presence. To my nose is a very similar floral note as "Paul Smith Man"; soft, spicy iris note minimized to the maximum. First tested this with several fragrances on release, my only recollection being it was "OK" and moved on.

Kokorico is a fragrance for someone who dares to be different. Someone who wants wear a scent that complements their unique style or personality but doesn't want to spend hundreds of dollars doing so. Kokorico is definitely niche style, and I applaud JPG for daring to make this unique fragrance, but I can't help but shake there is something missing from the sultry combo of fig, patchouli, and cacao. On positive note, it's perfect for all seasons and weather conditions. The fragrance is available as 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette with an accompanying collection of body care products (deodorant, shower gel, aftershave lotion). I wear this one for me. My wife likes even if she can’t find the words. She’s “normal” and either likes a scent or doesn’t. She doesn’t sit around all geekified like all of us trying to analyze what’s going into her nose. The man, who is rarely enthusiastic about the fragrances I test, which I wear, said "Ferragamo pour Homme", which he liked many years ago, followed sometime by "Tuscan Leather", "Fields of Rubus" - my memory doesn't give much more. I got this bottle at "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" promo at a department store. The other one I got was JPG Le Male, and I had to choose something else from the same brand. It was between Kokorico, Le Beau Male, and Le Male Terrible. I went for this one because I thought it has the most distant scent compared to Le Male.Honestly, if you're looking for an easy, simple yet different going-out gourmand for mid-season, this will do the job, especially among the young crowd (below 30). Its apparently on sale everywhere now. If you can grab a bottle at a low price as I did, go ahead. It's definitly worth it. Don't rely on the bad reputation on fragrantica, sample it for yourself an mTHEN make up your mind. Personally I enjoy it, it doesnt "wow me", but I'd still give it a 7/10. I had false expectations of this scent. Somehow I imagined Kokorico to be a very cuddly warm scent that embraces you. But that's not the case!
