About this deal

I don't give a damn what your father thinks, Malfoy! He's vile and cruel, and you're just pathetic!

Who put your name in the Goblet of Fire, under the name of a different school? I did. Who frightened off every person I thought might try to hurt you or prevent you from winning the tournament? I did. Who nudged Hagrid into showing you the dragons? I did. Who helped you see the only way you could beat the dragon? I did ." — Barty Crouch Jnr, revealing how he masterminded Harry Potter's victory in the Triwizard Tournament. [src] Crouch Jnr's soul removal marked the functional end of the Crouch family bloodline, [18] and what happened to Crouch's empty body following this, is unknown, although it is possible that Crouch died sometime in the mid- 1990s; circa 1996. [2] Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, Year 7, Chapter 32 ( The Wizengamot Trial) - Assignment "To Catch a Prankster" Non-verbal magic: Crouch could cast many highly advanced spells without uttering incantations, such as when he transfigured Draco Malfoy into a ferret, when and removed the desks in his classroom. Crouch also loved Quidditch in his youth, a fact mentioned by Winky. Also, as a young man, he was extremely emotional, weeping and screaming before he was sent to the Dementors and pleading violently with his father to grant him leniency. He screamed constantly in Azkaban — but this can be supremely expected among the prisoners of Dementors. This could be seen as hypocritical, as he snarled at Death Eaters for hiding and refusing to brave Azkaban in Voldemort's name, which is what he did himself. However it could have been merely an act in an attempt to escape so he could continue his search for Voldemort, as he was shown to be a talented actor.

Professor Moody informs the fourth-years students that he will be placing them under the Imperius Curse during their lesson, to demonstrate its power and to see whether they can resist its effects. When Hermione questions the legality of this, Moody tells her that Dumbledore requested they be taught what the curse feels like, and says that she can be excused from the class if she wants. Moody places the Imperius Curse on the students in turn, making them do some extraordinary things. When he comes to Harry, Moody attempts to force him to jump onto the desk. He is impressed when Harry manages to fight the curse, and insists on putting the boy through his paces four more times, until Harry can throw the curse off entirely.Igor Karkaroff was sent to Azkaban and held there until he offered to give up the names of a number of his fellow Death Eaters in exchange for a lighter sentence. Moody was present at Karkaroff's trial held sometime after Voldermort's fall on 31 October 1981, where he made his dislike of the defector very clear. The former Death Eater offered in vain the names of Antonin Dolohov, Evan Rosier, Travers, Mulciber, and Severus Snape, all of whom seemed to have already either been killed, captured, or defected. Harry Potter's parents, who first met at Hogwarts. They were killed by Voldemort, who was attempting to kill the fifteen-month-old Harry. They went into hiding to protect themselves but Peter Pettigrew sold them out and led the Dark Lord to their doorstep. The one thing we've got on our side is that You-Know-Who doesn't know we're moving you tonight. We've leaked a fake trail to the Ministry, they think you're not leaving until the thirtieth. However, this is You-Know-Who we're dealing with so we can't just rely on him getting the date wrong." — Alastor Moody briefing Harry before the battle [src]

Professor Moody emerges from a classroom near to the Charms corridor just after Harry tells Cedric about the dragons. He tells Harry to come to his office, and closes the door behind them. He watches Harry closely as the boy looks around his office, and tells him about the Dark Detectors he keeps in there. Moody tells Harry that he doesn't want to play favourites but that he wants to give Harry some general advice. He encourages Harry to play to his strengths, reminding Harry that he is an excellent flier. He gives one other piece of advice to Harry: he needs to use a nice, simple spell to get what he needs. Moody doesn't directly tell Harry anything, but he encourages him to put the two pieces of advice together to figure out what he needs for the first task. The scenes of Moody's magical eye being taken and used by Dolores Umbridge, as well as Harry recovering and properly burying it have been omitted from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (footage of this may have been filmed, however, seeing as it is seen on Umbridge's door with no mention of it being used.) In the films, anyone who takes Polyjuice Potion has their voice remain the same, the only change being in appearance (to help avoid confusing the audience because of this change). This does not seem to be the case for Barty Crouch Jnr when he turns into Alastor Moody, however it does not seem impossible that Barty was imitating Moody's voice the entire time, or that the filmmakers decided to make this an exception since his transformation was kept secret (unlike the others that occurred throughout the films) and therefore the audience would not be aware beforehand until his identity was exposed at the end of the film (though it is notable that Crouch Jnr, without by Polyjuice, only had three lines before his exposure and was not identified, so the change in voice might not have been necessary for someone who hasn't seen Goblet of Fire before). He also speaks with Gleeson's natural Irish accent, although his nationality appears to be Scottish, seeing as his impostor wears a kilt in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire during the Yule Ball. His nationality is never identified in the book, although Moody is a surname common in both Ireland and Scotland, while Alastor (sometimes spelt Alistair) is a Scottish first name. Auror members of the task force were shown a series of training techniques inspired by Mad-Eye, requiring them to stay on their feet and defend themselves for over an hour and increasing the amount of damage they could withstand in combat. These task force members also attended a lesson on Moody's work, including his creed of always remaining on guard. A Calamity Investigator working for the task force also read through his report on the battle which cost him his left eye, inspiring them to utilise pain as power and increasing their chance of landing Critical Casts on Adversaries in Feared Chains. [21] Physical descriptionIn the Battle of the Seven Potters in the movie Deathly Hallows Part I, Moody is shown riding a recumbent broom with a seat and handles on each side. It seems to me that this kind of broom isn't conducive to a battle situation. A little over a year later, the father, as a favour for his dying wife, smuggled him out of prison and kept him under control with the Imperius Curse for years to come. By Crouch Jnr's claim, his father loved only his wife and not him, but this was only in his own perception. The elder Barty's willingness to sacrifice his wife to spend her last days in the horrific Azkaban to rescue their son may be indicating that he retained some paternal affection for him, despite many believed otherwise. It was this sentence that cost Crouch Snr his chance to become Minister for Magic, his position as Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and his wife to suffer her last few days in Azkaban. It was also this sentence that caused Crouch Snr to be demoted to the Head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation. When the elder Crouch was subjugated by Voldemort and escaped, he decided to tell Dumbledore of everything, including that he smuggled his own son out of prison; it was during this moment that Crouch (in a delusive state) expressed his regret to Harry Potter of mistreating and neglecting his son, blaming himself for the young man's choice of life. Barty Crouch Jnr was very gifted and intelligent, whose potential as a wizard could be matched by only a select few. Armed with only the magical skills he had acquired throughout seven years of Hogwarts education, he successfully demonstrated sufficient magical ability to fool a whole school of learned academicians into believing him to be a seasoned Auror, speaking for his considerable skills. Additionally, Crouch swiftly came up with a feasible strategy to help Harry Potter win the Triwizard Tournament after he placed the boy's name into the Goblet of Fire. His intelligence has been vouched for by even Lord Voldemort, who while reluctant to trust Pettigrew wholeheartedly entrusted him to be the one to guide Harry to the rebirth ceremony. During the Calamity, his appearance as an Adversary was what set the framework for the Lethal classification.
