About this deal

Here we have the Dublin River walking boots. These are superb leather-made wellies with full waterproof lining. The price of these wellies puts us off putting them first. However, they are very well reviewed and praised all over the internet. A firm favourite in our household, these boots are super-comfortable for walks and everyday adventures. The soles are grippy and protective, while allowing natural foot movement, and the leather uppers are sourced from small-scale farmers with free-roaming cattle. These aren't completely waterproof, so little feet may get wet in deep puddles, but they do protect against wet grass, pavement puddles and rain. This high-top winter version of a classic trekking boot combines full-length lacing with a Gore-Tex lining and leather and synthetic upper. The design provides superior fit, grip and all-day comfort compared with a welly - but isn't as high or submersible. They're also more expensive than most, and require more care. But they're a joy to wear, and will be durable and long-lasting. Best for wet-weather walks, rather than wading. I walk dogs for a living… and am extremely impressed with the quality, comfort and durability of these wellies, after being let down in the past by other brands. Thank-you Rudds! For more information on fit as well as the different materials available, see the extended buyer’s guide below our roundup.

There are plenty of types of wellies to choose from, too. The perfect boot for you will depend on how and why you’ll be wearing it. Do you need a short pair of slip-on wellies for taking out the bins? A warm, comfy pair that’ll protect your legs when walking the dog in the woods? Or a stylish, weatherproof, fully adjustable pair of wellies that are equally at home striding around the city and hiking up and down muddy hills?

Dunlop Pricemaster Wellington Boots: Best budget wellies These wellies come complete with rubber soles for fantastic stability and excellent traction. The wellie is finished with a waterproof membrane, and they are well-designed wellies. An all-rubber outer means these boots are completely waterproof, while full-length lacing holds the foot securely for a good fit. The upper is comfortably padded, while underfoot the tread is grippy, with an integrated steel shank for excellent protection. Best suited to wet and muddy walking, they're also good for gardening thanks to the shank. They come up large, so you may need to go down a size.

Rudds have designed a hard wearing, lifestyle-led wellington boot. A welly that suits the needs of two key markets – equine and dog walking. It was always our intention to create a welly that was warm, supported and springy. A hard wearing boot that gripped the ground rather than having mud filling the treads and adding weight. A boot designed for all day use focusing on foot posture. As with any wellie, you would expect protection from water, and these do not disappoint. Walking your dog through wet, muddy fields and puddles will no longer bother you. Wellies are just the thing for the mud and endless puddles of a great British winter. But which come out on top when it comes to walking? With their slip-on design and less-than-grippy tread, wellies can rapidly become more of a chore than a pleasure to walk in.

The best material for the outer layer, lining and sole of your wellies depends on what you’ll be using the boots for, how much use they’re going to get, and how much you want to spend. Here are some of the materials you’ll encounter while shopping. These are the perfect solution for regular winter walks. Tried and tested with temperatures at -15, these boots keep your feet and toes nice and warm. Made from fully synthetic, durable materials, these wellies are 100% waterproof and 100% winterproof. Take your doggie out in the snow without fear. Comfort and support are also important unless you want your wellies to end up gathering dust in the loft. Look for a supportive sole that doesn’t over-flex, while also being flexible enough to not feel too “stompy”. Purchasing these dog walking wellies is like buying cushions for your feet. They are so comfortable you will feel like you are walking around in slippers throughout your whole walk, no matter how far you’ve walked. The boots are adjustable to fit nicely; however, make sure you buy the right size, as they don’t come too cheap. These full-height, full-grain leather and suede boots offer a lighter feel and a better fit around the foot and ankle than a traditional rubber welly. However, they're pricey, and will need regular care to keep the leather looking and performing at its best. The tread is grippy, cushioned and made from partly recycled rubber. Smart, comfortable and destined for many years of use, they're ideal for walking on wet grass, moorland and forest trails. Children'sWe know you’ll want to look your best this Christmas season so we’re introducing the suave and sophisticated brand Gabor, for some of the most elegant styles you’ll come across! From the moment I put on my new Rudds, they really did feel like old friends! These boots are seriously warm but also extremely comfortable and don’t need any wearing in… I absolutely love them and they’re well worth the investment. Next, we have the Dunlop Blizzard boots with a fleece lining. Keeping you warm and dry with fleece protection, these boots are perfect for walking your doggie. For longer walks or technical terrain, it's worth choosing a boot that offers a snugger and more adjustable fit than a standard welly. As well as helping you keep your footing, this will reduce the likelihood of rubbing or blisters. These comfy boots from Keen combine the height and waterproofing of a welly with the full-length lacing and protective, grippy outsole of a walking boot.

Gore-Tex is a patented lining that’s 100% waterproof and completely breathable. It’s ingenious: the membrane stops water from getting through from the outside, but does allow water vapour (eg sweat) out the other way. As well as keeping your feet dry, this also ensures comfort by cutting down on clamminess and chafing. Fab stuff. Include some drawstrings on the outer side of the wellies, so once your wellies are on, tighten them up and keep the cold out. Perfect! So, if you’re wanting wellies for long walks and dog walking then look no further. Rudds have been designed for you. How many walks have you cut short because your wellies are not comfortable? Hopefully, Rudds may be the answer.Polyurethane is used to make cheap synthetic rubber, a mainstay of budget wellies. It does a fine job of keeping the rain out and letting you stride through deep mud and puddles at festivals and while camping, but it’s not suitable for long-term use or hiking. The sole is perfectly made for rough, wet, icy terrains to make them an even more perfect winter boot. Helping prevent you from slipping and sliding. Although they are perfect for winter, they should only be used for occasional short walking. Not lengthy regular walks. The price is ideal for winter boots and will get you enough enjoyment with your pup. Material: Leather was the original, classic wellie of choice. The early days of the welly boot leather were undoubtedly the only boot anyone would choose. Products develop, materials improve, and designs change like anything else. Rubber and Synthetic PVC wellies are now a superb choice for any dog walking wellies. If we had to choose between any, we would select rubber wellies. They offer so much more support and are much more durable. One of our most frequently asked questions is whether Rudds are suitable wellies for dog walking. Hopefully this will answer some questions.
