About this deal

However, there are three functions added to the P-255 which makes it slightly better than the P-125: Key-off sampling, sustain sampling, and string resonance. Without going much into detail, these three help create piano sounds almost similar to real acoustic ones. Another notable thing is that the USB port on the P-125 can transfer not only MIDI data but also Audio data (USB Audio Interface), which is quite surprising to see on an instrument in this price range.

Moreover, the new model will not necessarily be a big jump from the previous model in terms of the playing experience. Most likely there will be small changes here and there as we’ve been witnessing for the past 10 or so years, but who knows maybe they will come up with something new this time. Yamaha has one of the most enviable arsenals when it comes to digital pianos. Among these, the P-series (Portable) is considered by many as the best when it comes to functionality and, more importantly, competitive pricing. The main Concert Grand Piano tone on the P-125 uses 4-layer sampling as opposed to 3 layers found on the P-115.

I do not recommend the P-125A anywhere near as much as the P-125 because Yamaha removed the audio interface from the USB to host port – this removes significant functionality (streaming audio both in and out of the piano) Hi Barbara, I wouldn’t say the app is essential for using the P-125. After all, it’s a digital piano, and you’re probably going to use it as a piano. The app just makes navigation a bit easier and provides some extra functionality. But you don’t really need all that if you want to use the P-125 as an acoustic piano alternative. It has everything a budding musician has and more. It's easily transported so you can bring it with you no matter where your gig is. You're a pianist looking for a practice piano.

It does have two pipe organ sounds, nothing mind-blowing, but still perfectly usable for most situations. You can listen to some demos online to get an idea of how they sound. Built in speakers with sound boost feature – perfect for individual practice and no need to connect to an external sound system to start playingAs for the potential successor coming out in 2020, it is possible but quite difficult to predict. The current P-125 model came out 3 years after its predecessor, the P-115, and didn’t really bring anything new to the table. Based on that, the new model is more likely to come out in 2021, but as said it’s hard to know for sure. Very interesting piano; super slim, very portable (light and can run on batteries), does have L/R line outs & a 1/8″ audio in, good sounds (18), 16 watt speakers, unique dual sensor action with simulated ebony & ivory keys (although in my opinion Casio went overboard with the finish on the keys – it’s REALLY exaggerated – the simulated finish on the Roland products is much more subtle and nicer to play – in my opinion), virtually no physical buttons (all smooth light up tactile buttons – same technology as your phone or tablet) – not a great onboard interface though, lots of key combinations need to be looked up from the manual. Good option for playing live given the outputs and battery capability; but make sure you play one first because the action is very unique (this is due to the slim form factor); many people criticize the action on this piano, many others (including pro pianists using them live) love it. I didn’t mind it, but I personally much prefer the action on the Roland FP products and the Yamaha P series. There are no rhythms on this piano. Again, ensuring you get the best possible sound in all scenarios, the Yamaha P-125 applies its stereophonic optimiser, creating a special balance when using your headphones for a beautiful, expansive listening experience.
