About this deal

Some of the attributes we looked for and rated each item on included the design, construction, and aesthetics of the decanter, as well as how easy or cumbersome it was to pour wine into the vessel. We also considered how easy it was to pour from the decanter into a wine glass and whether there was spillage. We tasted the wine after it was decanted and evaluated the change. And finally, we observed how difficult or easy it was to clean. This is a seriously good wine, full of energy, with great line and length to its peach, apple and oak vanilla flavours, the balance also impeccable. The more you sit with it, the more reasonable the price seems. Alc 13% Nivarius, Edición Limitada 2016 Citrus fruit aromas of grapefruit with some stone fruit on the nose, along with flinty nuances. Silky and smooth palate with a mineral finish. Alc 13% Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, Grainha Reserva Branco 2021 More often than not, when we see a decanted wine, it’s red, not white. And for good reason. Red wines more often have sediment (which you’d want to decant out) and many, so-called “tighter” red wines can benefit hugely from “opening up,” i.e. getting some exposure to oxygen for varying amounts of time to let the aromatics have a chance to peek out. (Oxygen, however, does eventually become the enemy of wine, and aromatics can float away, so decant, and drink!) The decanter measures 6.5 inches at its widest diameter, can hold up to 44 ounces, and the angled spout allows for drip-free pouring. With sustainability in mind, this is made from 100 percent lead-free, recycled glass. It comes with a 60-day guarantee in case of breakage.

Decanters come in a few different types, including electric and traditional, and also use a variety of methods to do the decanting. For example, some require more time for the decanting process to take place, while others allow you to start sipping right away.

Lovely Verdejo aromas of nettles, lemon curd and fresh herbs. Bright, full-bodied and fleshy with pineapple, a squeeze of lime, banana and mango. Crisp and refreshing. Alc 13.2% Doña Beatriz, Verdejo, Rueda 2019 White wines can be decanted, and it won’t hurt the wine. It's more common to decant the heavier whites like your California chardonnays or Rhone Valley white blends. They just don’t need to be decanted as long as reds, 20 to 40 minutes should do just fine. This wine decanter and aerator by Luxbe is great for releasing the rich flavours and aromas in your red wine.

Very aromatic and tropical on the nose, showing pineapple, passionfruit, green mango and crème brûlée notes, alongside pleasant sweet spice from oak ageing. Fresh and juicy core, structured and balanced. Alc 13.5% Bodega Hermanos del Villar, Oro de Castilla Verdejo, Rueda 2019 The more dense your wine is, the more it’ll benefit from being aerated before serving, so if you’re into jammy, heavy-hitting New World reds like a Chilean Merlot or Aussie Shiraz, give it a try. A decanter takes up valuable real estate in the kitchen or home bar, so if you’re going to have it on display and use it frequently, you’ll want something with visual appeal. If you have plenty of enclosed cabinet space and don’t decant wines often, this may be a lower priority.

We loved the feel of the carafe, which is slender around the spout and feels great in the hand. While the YouYah was smaller than most of the decanters we tested, it still comfortably holds a full 750ml bottle of wine. Most white wines will never need longer than 15 minutes to aerate, and I’d say 30 mins tops for a mature bottle. For most wine drinkers, a simple, sturdy, no-frills style like the Le Chateau Wine Decanter should do the job perfectly. We also love the extremely practical BTäT Decanter because it comes with everything you need if you don’t already own accessories for cleaning and storage.
