About this deal

I'm a New Zealander who has been living in London since the mid-1990s, shooting film seriously since the year 2000. Kosmo Foto was launched in 2012 and has since become a film brand, with the release of my first films Kosmo Foto Mono 35mm (2017) and Kosmo Foto Mono 120 (2019). Honestly, the Kodak Ektar H35 is for every type of photographer. But it is particularly for photographers who want an inexpensive camera to inject some fun into photography again.

Ektar H35 Review - Canny Half Full or Half Empty ? - Kodak Ektar H35 Review - Canny

Double the amount of photos means your roll of film will last much longer. It even means you save money on processing costs. This is because you would normally have to pay twice for the same amount of shots! 35mm film (top) and half frame results from the Kodak Ektar H35 (bottom)The Kodak Ektar H35 manages to be good, fuss-free fun while also not quite being all that it promises. The idea of doubling your output from a roll of film is no doubt going to be tempting for a lot of analog photography lovers who are feeling pinched and pressured by the cost of living. And long as you accept (and ideally embrace) the compromises in quality that come with its format, the Kodak Ektar H35 does give you more for your money. But 99% of the time, it’s not because these photographers want to create these formats. It’s usually because the people they take it to for film scanning don’t know they are half frame!

Note: Half-frame photos have a lower resolution than a full 35mm image and are ultimately less sharp. However, this trade-off is worth it for those who love film photography's colors and nostalgic feel. Because the lenses on these cameras aren’t very good, you’ll want to get your subject in the middle of the frame to ensure that they’re in focus. Often low quality cameras have lenses that have really soft focus around the edges, so if you try to keep your subject near the middle then you’ll be more likely to get a sharper shot! Take Your Time It also makes for a compact design. The lens doesn't need to cover as large a surface area as a full-frame camera, after all. The Ektar H35 is small, just 2.4 by 4.3 by 1.5 inches (HWD), and featherweight at 3.5 ounces.

If you use one There is one small difference, to put your flash on, with the Ultra F9 you just push a switch on the front somewhere, nothing special right? I think this camera is a brilliant reason to put down the disposable camera and shoot something that’s a bit more sustainable and much more fun! Final Word Turning on the flash by adjusting the silver ring around the lens so that you can use Kodak Ektar H35 during days and nights, outdoor and indoor.”We live in an age of mind-blowing megapixels. But many photographers are drawn to the low-fi aesthetic of point-and-shoot photography. RETO has made a name for themselves in the analogue photography world by offering good quality products at low prices. They resurrected the 3D film camera and the cult classic Vivitar Ultra Wide and Slim point and shoot camera, and then made this new Kodak-branded thing. True to form, the H35 a simple, lightweight, compact, and cheap camera. Kodak Ektar H35 Film Camera is a half-frame camera. This means that it can shoot 72 photographs on standard 36exp 35mm film! Though for me personally this was a bit of a non-issue, as I had trouble getting the flash to work at all – it definitely powered up at least once, but after that, even with subsequent swap-ins of brand new batteries, it refused to do anything. This wasn’t a huge bother for me personally – I like shooting outdoors and in daylight a lot more than I like firing a cheap on-camera flash in people’s faces – but it was still disappointing.
