Contributors CAH is the author responsible for drafting the manuscript. PP acted as the Chief Investigator for the study and provided support in the recruitment, assisted with the study design and contributed to the manuscript. EM, AVK and RA assisted with the study design and contributed to the manuscript. VA conducted the statistical analyses and data interpretation and contributed to the manuscript. AK was responsible for the management and coordination of the study, conducted the literature search and oversaw data collection and management. All authors read and approved the final manuscript. Children 15+ and adults: take 15g to 22.5g (≈ 1 tablespoon or 1–1.5 sachet) diluted in 200 ml of water 3 times a day. Hi I have suffered with ibs D for a number of years and during that time have tried many different medicines to try and combat the diarrhoea , and have to say that loperamide did help somewhat but not every time. So I came across an article about enterosgel and thought I’d give it a go .

WHO and Unicef claim that there are approximately two billion cases of diarrhoeal disease every year worldwide, and in children under 5 years of age, 1.9 million die from diarrhoea each year, most often in developing countries. Annually, in the UK, there are 17 million cases and 1 million physician consultations attributed to acute infectious diarrhoea. 1 This study aims to recruit 430 adult participants with IBS-D, from approximately 30 medical practices and outpatient clinics in the UK. The goal is to investigate whether Enterosgel® can improve IBS-D symptoms, including diarrhoea and abdominal pain, and is well-tolerated. The study will also investigate the impact of Enterosgel® on the quality of life, work productivity and activity and general health, and evaluate whether Enterosgel® has long-term effects. The study will involve four visits and one phone call over 26 weeks. During the study, the participants will complete questionnaires related to IBS and general health, and a daily study diary over 18 weeks. In the first treatment phase, half of the patients will receive Enterosgel® and half will receive a placebo for 8 weeks. In the second treatment phase, all patients will receive Enterosgel® for 8 weeks.

Enterosgel also showed significant treatment benefit for bloating, stool frequency, urgency and adequate relief. No, Enterosgel is composed of organic mineral and doesn’t contain any ingredients of animal or plant origin. For this reason, Enterosgel does not need to be stored in the fridge but at a temperature of between 4-30°C and away from direct sunlight out of 253 (74%) of these patients who completed the follow-up phase said they had an increased or maintained treatment benefit. Take the necessary dose of ENTEROSGEL® after the first loose stool. Take ENTEROSGEL® at least 2 hours before or after taking oral medications. Take ENTEROSGEL® at least 1–2 hours before or after meal. Dilute the dose in the water of room temperature before its administration. Use sachet immediately after opening. This was also higher in the Enterosgel group for week 5-8 of the double-blind phase and continued to improve further in the open-label phase when all patients took Enterosgel.

Double-blinded randomised placebo controlled trial of - Gut

Do not use ENTEROSGEL® within 2 hours before or after taking oral medication. ENTEROSGEL® may affect the absorption of some medicines that are administered orally. If you are taking any medication, you may wish to consult with your doctor or pharmacist regarding taking ENTEROSGEL®. I’ve heard people take this once or twice a day, what would be the best time to take this if only taking once or twice? No, Enterosgel should not be taken with meals, it is best to leave a 2 hour gap between meals and taking Enterosgel.

For sachets: each sachet should be used only once after it is opened. Each sachet is disposable and should be opened immediately before use. Do not reuse partially used sachets to prevent microbial contamination. If diarrhoea symptoms persist (most cases pass after 5–7 days), you should consult your doctor. If there is blood in your stools, signs of dehydration, six or more episodes of diarrhoea in the last 24 hours, diarrhoea and vomiting at the same time, or a severe or continuous stomach ache, seek medical advice especially in the case of children. Enterosgel has been available in Europe as an over-the-counter medical device since 2011. The performance and safety have been documented through clinical studies and postmarketing safety surveillance for over 30 years. However, these studies have suffered from inherent shortcomings with regards to methodological design and reporting.

Blinding: This study was also “double-blinded”. This means that both the patients and the doctors did not know if the treatment or the placebo was given. This was done so that the test results were not affected by patients and doctors knowing which group they were in, placebo or Enterosgel. The recommended dosage for adults is 1 sachet 3 times per day. Take each sachet with 100ml water or a cold drink and always take it 1-2 hours before or after a main meal. The recommended dosage for children aged 3-5 is 1/3 sachet 3 times per day. For children aged 5 or older, the recommended dosage is ½-1 sachet 3 times per day. Side EffectsThe Enterosgel group had a higher percentage of patients (37%) that were positive for the primary endpoint (showed a decrease in both abdominal pain and stool consistency) compared to the placebo (24%). The treatments recommended for acute diarrhoea by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance are fluid and nutritional management, with antidiarrhoeal (antimotility) drugs considered unnecessary and only advisable for specified groups. Enteros Gel is amazing, my wife has suffered from IBS for a few years and she has had to endure all the restrictions that this awful complaint brings, from the moment she took the first dose of the gel her life completely changed and she thankfully, nolonger suffer from IBS symptoms. If you suffer from IBS, you must try Enteros Gel. The only slight negative point is that if you take it regularly, it can be i bit expensive but worth the price. Mix a dose of Enterosgel (a teaspoon or a table spoon depending on the age and indication) in a glass of water and take 2 hours before or after a meal or taking medications.

The sponsor of this study was Enteromed Ltd. We would like to thank everyone who took part in the study. Analyses were performed using SPSS V.25 and STATA/SE V.14.0. The baseline characteristics of the groups were summarised as mean (SD) and median (IQR) by trial arm. Analysis and presentation of data was in accordance with Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials guidance, using STATA IC V.15.1. Primary analyses were conducted following the intention-to-treat (ITT) principle with patient outcomes analysed according to their original randomised group irrespective of deviations based on non-compliance. Per-protocol (PP) analyses were also performed, where participants who were ineligible at randomisation, did not take any study treatment or provide any primary outcome measures, were excluded. The primary outcome measure was analysed using both observed data and multiple imputation by chained equations to impute missing daily scores. Missing values were imputed on a weekly basis, with the following variables included in the imputation models: treatment group, baseline measure of the outcome, age and sex. The primary outcome was summarised descriptively by trial arm and the proportions compared using a logistic regression model. Proportions categorised as study period responders for stool consistency and abdominal pain were also compared using logistic regression. It is effective as an ALL-IN-ONE treatment for IBS diarrhoea. It relieves abdominal pain, bloating, urgency and improves quality of life! Placebo: A tube containing water only, which mixed into a glass of water looks and tastes the same as the treatment. Our primary outcome analysis used multiple imputation for missing diary entries for both stool consistency and abdominal pain. Although this method has been widely adopted to handle missing data 35 it can introduce bias, but it is reassuring that the resulting ORs were comparable to the observed data. Funding The study was funded by Bioline Products s.r.o, the legal manufacturer of the medical device Enterosgel in the EU. The trial results showed that significantly more people who received Enterosgel ® experienced less abdominal pain and diarrhoea compared to participants who received the placebo. Enterosgel ® participants also saw a marked improvement in other IBS symptoms such as bloating, stool frequency and urgency.
