As a family we love to play board games and card games. Without a doubt they are a brilliant activity for the colder darker evenings that are on the way as autumn starts drawing in. And although Elizabeth isn’t quite old enough to play this game just yet, we know that this game will likely be a firm favourite once she starts learning more history at school. It’s a history lesson like no other! How Is The Game Played?

Plus we love finding out about the people and places from the past. And as history fans, one of our favourite things as a family is ‘Horrible Histories’. The brilliant award winning Horrible Histories series of books and the children’s TV show of the same name are a great way to learn so much about how humans have lived throughout the ages. With all the gory and unpleasant bits left in. So when we found out that there is a board game out now for the whole family to play, we couldn’t wait to play it too. Here is our Horrible Histories Board Game review. True or false: British troops in World War II were issued with brown toilet rolls. Based on the award-winning Horrible Histories series, this family fun, educational board game encourages learning through play and is perfect for 2-4 players age 8 years and over.The game consists of a playing board, 4 playing pieces, 4 colour coded horrible history booklets, 24 Chance cards, 3 dice and a set of rules. This giveaway is limited to UK entrants aged 18 or over. If you enter from out of the UK, your entry will be deleted. This is a great idea because history is important yet too often made boring & uninspiring, especially for the kids. Horrible Histories is incredibly popular so they’re best placed for something like this, and I really like how they’ve kept everything themed, even the font on the cards. Sounds like an excellent game for all. And a fantastic giveaway too, especially while many are still restricting going out too much because of the pandemic (not to mention with nastier weather on the way again before long).

Horrible Histories The Board Game is aimed at children age 8 and upwards and can be played with 2 to 4 players. Some of the content might not be suitable for younger children and without some knowledge of history they might struggle to answer any questions, although they are multiple choice and I would imagine people have to guess most of the time anyway. Example questions: c) a stink trap (answer c which is apparently the bend in the toilet pipe that stops smells coming up from the drains). It would be lovely to revisit the 60s, times were hard but the towns and cities were buzzing and it was great to be able to visit a doctor and even better to be able to ring someone without having to be 20th in the queue. Reply answer multiple choice questions or perform an action from the related colour Horrible Histories booklet, or The three dice determine how the playing pieces move. Terms and Conditions of Giveaway You play the game by travelling around the board and through time from Romans to the 20th century. Players take it in turn to throw the 3 dice and move forwards the number shown on the white dice. If you land on a character space you are asked a question from the relevant time period (the question number is decided by the numbers on the dice) or you have to guess what an action is (effectively charades). The winner is whoever gets to the end first. As you see, we also enjoyed dressing up whilst playing. It’s not necessary, but it did add to the drama!
