About this deal

In this next idea, pupils add speech bubbles exploring what the characters might be saying/thinking at that point in the story. We loved this book! It's beautiful and a wonderful addition to the home library. I can't wait to read the next two in the trilogy.

A little girl is feeling very bored one day in the summer. All of her family members are busy doing things and no one will play with her. Scooter (pretend to ride the scooter)

Look at the different characters in the story. Can you create your own illustrations of them? This video has some tips from the author / illustrator: I am a huge fan of wordless books, particularly when they offer such opportunity for imagination to ignite and growth to take place on behalf of the reader, be it a child or an adult. The "story" becomes so much more meaningful when you are given license to be a part of it--literally help create it as you go, even though there might be a preconceived idea in the mind of the author. This is one of those books. What emotions do you think the girl is feeling? How can we tell? (This gives an opportunity to talk about body language. Younger children might want to show you physically by copying the girl’s body language and showing the expression they imagine on her face) The Number Theory. Made By Aaron M. Natural Counting Numbers. Natural Counting Numbers are {1,2,3…} Whole Numbers are like Counting Numbers. They just have a 0 instead Ex. {0,1,2,3…}= Counting Numbers Remember Whole Numbers has the hole “0”. Integers.

Taken as a whole, his illustrations provide a rich and memorable reading experience that will inspire much in the way of thinking and talking, and make a wonderful starting point for creative projects of all kinds. 1 | Playing picture detectives Even though the nephew is beginning to read some, he still gets to read the wordless book. Let me tell you, his story was filled with all kinds of things you would not believe. It was exciting and filled with body humor, to say the least. (He was once asked what his favorite body part was and he answered, the butt cause it farts, and he laughed heartily.) The artwork is stellar here and it opened up my imagination. trying to save a vibrant lilac bird which has been imprisoned. Disaster strikes when, having freed the bird, she is caught by angry guards who throw away her After glancing through the book, I immediately knew that it would work really well as a yoga lesson plan with a good sequence of poses.

This ‘visual literacy’ approach to a picture’s content, narrative and composition is an effective way to boost children’s speaking and listening skills and develop their critical abilities, as well as increase their enjoyment of the book. For example: what would happen if this object…grew to be enormous? …had magic powers? …wanted a friend? …came to life? …belonged to somebody else (the queen, a lion, a visitor from outer space)?
