Taylor & Francis; 2010;102(2):459-77 Dealing with scale and finishing production in two years were certainly challenges for the creative team, but it was nailing Ruby’s royal-yet-relatable Kraken look that posed the biggest threat. Presented in a sturdy, metal divers cage to protect you hearty adventurers from the terrifying Beast. Be warned, the cage and bottle has scratch marks from a close encounter with The Kraken itself. Ian Amos, Operations Coordinator at PADI AWARE, said: “Kraken Rum has a rich history of supporting marine life, from the smallest sea critters to the biggest sea-dwellers, so we’re proud to be working together once again to save and protect the ocean. Every single bottle sold will help us continue our vital work of removing ocean debris, as well as training new volunteers to help us make an even bigger splash in 2022.” • The Kraken Rum unveils its second bottle from the ‘Unknown Deep’ limited-edition series, which was discovered by a crew of brave divers following a close encounter with The Beast itself. Rees et al. conducted an independent study on coelentrazine, which is a marine luciferin [ 12]. They came to the conclusion that bioluminescence may have evolved as a biochemical pathway, mainly for the disposal of peroxide, superoxide, and other harmful oxygen species produced in the course of metabolism. This may have additionally been favored by the acute absence of illumination in the dark depths of the ocean. Bioluminescence may have undergone natural selection as these species may have progressed deeper in the dark depths of the ocean, where the selective pressure for anti-oxidant defense naturally subsided. It is a common belief that bacterial bioluminescent systems were among the first to originate in nature. Bioluminescent bacteria are present in both terrestrial as well as aquatic habitats, and can be found all over the world. In fact, these bacteria can easily be sourced from any tissue or detritus lying on beaches, or even from uncooked seafood [ 4]. The glowing oceans, which are a spectacular result of these microorganisms, have been described in detail in the travails of Darwin, and can be observed, or rather enjoyed at various locations all over the world.

Wiley Online Library; 2009;11(2):483-93 From dragons and ogres to yetis, sharks, and even aliens, DreamWorks Animation continues to connect with global audiences by turning monsters to heroes that viewers young, old, and even real-life heroes themselves can look up to. And while many studios are looking for ways to do things differently in animation, the team behind the new 3DCG DreamWorks feature Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, which releases in U.S. theaters today, June 30, continues to live by the age-old saying, “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.” Kaskova ZM, Dörr FA, Petushkov VN, Purtov K V., Tsarkova AS, Rodionova NS, et al. Available from: https://advances.sciencemag.org/lookup/doi/10.1126/sciadv.1602847 The priority is making sure the audience connects with the character, and making sure that connection is never broken,” says Puertolas. “You want it to look real, because there may be plenty of audience members who are fans of octopuses or Krakens, and you don’t want to do something that’s too off the mark. But, like everything else, it’s a balance. And I think there's something very appealing as well about having this giant, monster-looking creature that still is a teenager. It’s funny and it's appealing.”
