About this deal

The beauty of this approach to bolstering OLED brightness is that it doesn't depend on more power (in fact, the G3 runs slightly more efficiently than 2022's G2 in most configurations) - something which should also help limit the G3's susceptibility to screen burn. As was the case with G2, the G3 is primarily designed for wall mounting, so doesn’t come with a tabletop stand. The G2 was referred to as LG’s “Gallery edition” OLED for this reason, but the brand is marketing the G3’s design as “Zero Gap” due to the way it fits flush against your wall. While LG’s webOS interface remains our favourite among various TV brands when it comes to ease of use and intuitiveness, especially in combination with the aforementioned Magic Remote, the company’s decision to move towards a full-screen experience last year didn’t go down well with some viewers. There are four HDMI 2.1 inputs, along with a headphone out, digital optical out, Ethernet, satellite, two RF aerial inputs, three USBs, and a CI+ 1.4 (Common Interface) slot. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Bluetooth Surround Ready, and WiSA support (up to 2.1 channels). Cinematic Movement is the least aggressive, stabilising 24fps content but not necessarily removing its natural stutter. Natural isn’t as the name implies, with more jittery movement watching 1917 and it also has the effect of making the lower half of the soldiers’ bodies look a little fake. Soap Opera Effect (SOE) settles in with this setting.

Oh, how wrong I was. There’s of course the technical advancements, such as OLED Evo and Micro Lens Array, that have been made to give it next-generation picture quality, which we cover in this article about things you need to know before buying an OLED –but then there’s the overall experience that it delivers.

That 70% figure is compared to traditional OLED as used in the LG B3 – the screens LG was putting in flagship TVs about 3 years ago – so it’s not quite as drastic as it sounds. But given OLED’s notoriously limited brightness, any ground gained on this front is welcomed. While I initially questioned the stand’s stability, I was impressed with the ease that the G3 balanced such a large weight on what felt like flimsy hooks when fixing it in place, but the four tiny screws seemed to do the job and hold the TV upright. This new panel doesn’t just intend to break through the brightness ceiling that’s hampered OLED TVs, but smash through it, competing with Samsung’s QD-OLED technology. AvailabilityHelped by its new MLA OLED panel, the LG G3 delivers an impressive brightness upgrade on the G2, extremely wide viewing angles, outstanding colour accuracy, superb video processing, top-notch gaming performance and some of the most impactful HDR seen on an OLED television yet. We expect the LG G3 to release around March/April and cost roughly the same as the G2’s launch prices, which we’ve listed below: As well as transforming what we can now expect WOLED TVs to be capable of with HDR content, the G3's mind-boggling brightness and unexpected colour enhancements suddenly make OLED a vastly more engaging bright room technology than it ever has been before.

Moving on, the LG OLED65G3 is incredibly bright out of the box. Small highlights fizz with intensity, there’s barely any reduction in the brightness output of larger objects on screen, with average brightness across various picture modes considerably brighter than the Sony A95K, contributing to brighter white tones, although with Dolby Vision content this position is reversed.LG states that this is largely down to improvements made to its colour processing - though I guess it's also true that the way MLA works means there isn’t actually much more brightness being produced by the OLED pixels than there was before. The brightness increase is predominantly down to the light the OLEDs being produced emerging through the screen more efficiently. There were no other steps to get it up and running, I just switched on the set once plugged into power and was greeted with a bright setup walkthrough, which felt somewhat invasive with all its questions, but this seems increasingly standard with smart TVs. As if the huge increase in brightness wasn’t already sensational enough, the OLED65G3 somehow manages to completely rewrite our interpretation of the OLED rule book by actually producing much richer, more vibrant and more natural colour tones than 2022's G2. One notable addition is support for different user profiles, allowing multiple users to have personalised settings and preferences for content recommendations, apps and more. This improvement makes it easier for family members to enjoy a tailored viewing experience on a shared TV. Helped by the new Alpha 9 Gen 6 processor, the LG G3’s video processing is excellent. Its upscaling algorithm retrieves sharp details from lower-resolution content, providing an impressive viewing experience for various types of media. Video-mode and film-mode deinterlacing were top-notch without any notable errors to report.
