About this deal

It could be useful for storing your poncho after the rainy months pass or also easy to bring with you for a ride if there’s chance of showers. The SaphiRose boasts itself as a ‘3-in-1 multi-function’ poncho. Not only is it a waterproof cloak, but it can also be used as an awning cloth or a tent ground sheet mat. Ideal for those wet camping trips.

Rain Capes: Cleverhood vs People’s Poncho – Bromptoning Rain Capes: Cleverhood vs People’s Poncho – Bromptoning

Initially I hooked the straps onto my handlebars, but felt more confident riding when I hooked them onto my hands instead. While we’re not a fan of the term “shrink it n’pink it” in women’s cycling, we quite like a little pink here and there. If you’re a firm anti-pink wearer, then fear not because the Brooks England Cambridge Stowable Rain Cape is available in a number of other colours as well. When you think of a rain cape or poncho, you may be imagining a cheap plastic poncho that resembles a trash bag. The truth is capes made for biking are not only stylish but will do a great job of keeping you dry.

Each has a stylish pattern with interwoven reflective thread, creating a bright high-viz grid that will ensure you are seen in dark and wet conditions. I only buy things I really need and have the criteria that they must be multi-functional and long-lasting. I have so far found that The People’s Poncho fits the bill. My first test as you can see above was to line the inside of a cup with the poncho and fill it with water. I wanted to know if the water would seep through to the glass cup. After waiting for it to soak through it in fact kept the water from getting into the glass. It is important to remember that if you plan on using this poncho while cycling you need to have fenders on your bike. Without fenders you’ll have water spraying and coming off the tires which will get your shoes and pants wet. If you’re hoping to be completely dry while bike commuting than make sure you get this poncho AND fenders. The Features of this Cycling Poncho

This company clearly thought deeply about what would make a great rain cape. Here are some of the characteristics of this product: Straps for Cycling –Under the poncho there’s two straps that you can grab while holding the handlebars. This creates a small canopy to protect your legs from getting wet. A simple concept, but works really well. They also have a strap that can cinch around your waist to keep the poncho covering your torso. Without this, windy weather would turn your poncho into a superhero cape and you’d get soaking wet. These handlebar and waist straps are what sets this poncho apart from other “cycling ponchos.”Don’t let the rain stop you from riding your bike. With the right poncho, you can make it through the wettest of weather. The first trip with the poncho went just like any other ride. The only difference is it took a little getting used to working the brakes and gear shifts with the poncho straps. There are a variety of methods to dealing with rain while cycling, but I wanted to try the poncho approach. I began researching rain capes and ponchos hoping to find one that keep me dry and not make me look goofy. So, imagine wearing something light, breathable, totally rainproof and suitable for cold and warm weather alike. That’s where the waterproof poncho comes in. Also known as a rain cape, this is a loose-fitting piece of waterproof fabric with a hood that protects most of your body from the rain. Being visible is important for bike commuters. You want to make sure other cyclists, motorists, and pedestrians can see you. The fact of the matter is that this cape isn’t as visible as others which are neon orange or yellow. Visibility was sacrificed for style.

I can honestly say that The People’s Poncho has become a firm favourite in my wet weather gear and will be sure to go on some adventures with me in the future. I haven’t tried it on my (clashing pink) Brompton yet, but will write a post on that when the time comes. There are obviously different needs when it comes to pedalling around. Designed specifically for cycling, this lightweight, reproofable waxed cotton is waterproof, rustle-proof and long lasting. With taped seams throughout and reflective detail, this rain poncho will keep you dry, and seen in low-light conditions. It is miserable finding yourself caught in the rain with nothing to protect you from getting wet. One option for staying dry while on a rainy day is to invest in a proper cycling rain cape. They’re not great for extreme weather. The baggy fit means they flap in the wind. Apart from being irritating, if it’s very windy it’s likely that rain will be blown underneath and you’ll be soaked. You might also feel like you’re going to take off. Material –It’s made of three layers of polyester to keep it breathable, waterproof, and durable. The outer layer has a TPU coating ( Thermoplastic polyurethane) which helps the water roll right off. Unlike cheaper rain ponchos or capes it doesn’t feel like you could rip it with your bare hands. Its got strength to it, and is made to last. Even so it is lightweight weighing in at 460g. I was worried that it wearing it would get hot, but it’s surprisingly breathable. They attribute this to their triknot knit design.

There are three to choose from – Classic Electric Houndstooth, Classic Electric Ginghamand Classic Electric Glen. All are made from sustainable fabric – a perfect complement to your eco-friendly choice of travel.

Ponchos for Commute 10 of the Coolest Rain Capes and Ponchos for Commute

The only other negative of this cape is the cost. It’s pricey. This is the type of cape that you get and wear for the rest of your life. It’s top quality, but you’ll pay the price for it. Essentially, you need a size that fits you. If you go for a ‘one-size’ poncho, choose something with adjustable fitting features. If you have a particularly small or large frame, you might be better off choosing a brand with different size options. Available in three sizes, short, regular and tall, the Cleverhood Classic is a high visibility rain cape that you can be sure will fit. It’s also fairly lightweight at 410 g. Yes, but it doesn’t fit well under a helmet, nor over a helmet, and can obstruct peripheral vision.

One of the negative aspects of this cape is that it does not perform well at high speeds or high winds. This cape comes with magnetic straps that allow you to attach the cape to your handlebar while cycling. Buttons –Three buttons down the middle to make it easy to get your head in, but also useful to button it up to keep the water out. On each side of the poncho there’s three buttons to pop together if you’d like to make sleeves for your arms. I found this great for walking around, but too restrictive while riding my bike. Handlebar Attachment– The wide straps are easier to find and attach to your handlebars than the CleverZipster’s thumb loops.
