He said he was ‘tenacious, disciplined and committed . . . my personal drive, fiercely competitive nature, and the ability to perform under pressure for extended periods make me an ideal business associate.’ ALONG THE WAY, there were plenty of opportunities to stop the Greensill crisis before it snowballed. I began writing about Greensill in the spring of 2019. My stories were sceptical. Lex hated them and as a result he hated me too. His staff told me. His business partners told me too. His pugilistic public relations chief told me, and demanded that I stop asking awkward questions. It was personal, at least for Lex. From the time of the Early Dynastic Period (c. 3150–2686 BCE), Egyptians with sufficient means were buried in bench-like structures known as mastabas. [12] [13] At Saqqara, Mastaba 3808, dating from the latter part of the 1st Dynasty, was discovered to contain a large, independently built step-pyramid-like structure enclosed within the outer palace facade mastaba. Archaeological remains and inscriptions suggest there may have been other similar structures dating to this period. From left to right, the three largest are: the Pyramid of Menkaure, the Pyramid of Khafre and the Great Pyramid of Giza. The three smaller pyramids in the foreground are subsidiary structures associated with Menkaure's pyramid. In truth, just to echo what I said a little bit earlier, in truth, it wasn't just supply chain finance assets. It was, in fact, kind of loans to risky businesses, some of them complex steel businesses run by Sanjeev Gupta. And so this is Credit Suisse's clients' money. Some of it's pension fund money, some of it's big sovereign wealth fund money. Some of it's money from individual private clients.Either way, Lex worked as a clerk for a local law firm and earned his degree from the Queensland University of Technology by listening to cassette tapes mailed to the farm. ‘I can tell you that is a tough way to earn your degree,’ he told me later. ‘Work full-time, discover girls, and do a law degree all at the same time.’ The future Prime Minister, then aged 23, is said to have “invented” a comment from a distinguished Oxford don, historian Colin Lucas — who happened to be his godfather. While still the editor of The Spectator, Mr Johnson won the Conservative seat for Henley in 2001. He enjoyed a rapid ascent through the Commons, becoming shadow arts minister in 2004. Indeed, that’s probably what made the man’s investment scheme so successful, investigators say. Artificial intelligence offers many benefits to companies in terms of automation, risk management and efficiency gains, but it needs to be employed carefully to mitigate potential challenges, especially when dealing with small datasets. Cameron, who had shown up whenever Lex needed his support, immediately distanced himself from the firm once it collapsed – a spokesperson said that as he ‘was neither a director of the company, nor involved in any lending decisions, he has no special insight into what ultimately happened.’ But the revelations about Cameron’s lobbying of his former government colleagues will not go away. He has been hauled in front of Parliament, his reputation sullied. DUNCAN MAVIN: Yes, I think that's right. I think this is -- it's tempting sometimes to see these big kind of corporate scandals in terms of big systems and institutions. But at the heart of this one, is the guy Lex Greensill. And he's fascinating, a really divisive character. Some people I talked to said Lex is really charismatic and a genius. And other people I talked to said, stay away from Lex, things are going to go wrong.

In 1842, Karl Richard Lepsius produced the first modern list of pyramids—now known as the Lepsius list of pyramids—in which he counted 67. A great many more have since been discovered. At least 118 Egyptian pyramids have been identified. [3] The location of Pyramid 29 which Lepsius called the "Headless Pyramid", was lost for a second time when the structure was buried by desert sands after Lepsius's survey. It was found again only during an archaeological dig conducted in 2008. [23]

It is not often that ones niche sector gets covered through a book. This has been quite well researched and does give good detail though am unsure how much o The morning was taken up by a big meeting, recapping the past month’s work and mulling the next stage of Greensill’s rapid global expansion. A tighter group met in the afternoon, an inner circle of senior executives and board members who had been taken into King Lex’s confidence. This is a story that echoes many of the biggest financial and business scandals of all time. Politicians have accused Lex of running a Ponzi scheme, named for a 1920s Italian-born US financier. Like Lex, Charles Ponzi was a natty dresser, and an outsider who slipped into high society. Ponzi convinced investors to part with their money and offered them huge profits. But his investments were an illusion, using money from new investors to pay off older investors. The whole scam kept running only so long as he could get his hands on more cash. Eventually, the scam was exposed, in part by Dow Jones, my own employer, and Charles Ponzi ended up in jail.

NATHAN HUNT: There is no Greensill Capital without Lex Greensill. So who is this guy? Where did he come from? And what motivated him to get as far as he did?
