Christopher Brookmyre is a Scottish novelist (fromGlasgow)whose novels mix politics, social comment and action with a strong narrative. He has been referred to as a Tartan Noir author. There are risks he can take without jeopardizing his plans. He can afford to play cat-and-mouse with the female cop who's on his tail; it might even arguably be necessary. Nesbitt is fine in the lead role, Crosbie is good as the owner of the bed and breakfast, but this drama is let down by the relationship between Nesbitt and the officer. Gavin Hutchinson had it all planned out. A unique "floating holiday experience" on a converted North Sea oil rig, a haven for tourists who want a vacation but without the hassle of actually going anywhere. And what better way to test out his venture than to host a fifteenth-year high school reunion, the biggest social event of his life, except no one remembers who Gavin is. It was dramatised by Stuart Hepburn and directed by Sam Miller. Irish actor James Nesbitt played Parlabane, and spoke with his own accent instead of Parlabane's Glaswegian one. The producers had originally wanted Scottish actor Douglas Henshall to play Parlabane, but they were overruled by ITV's commissioners [1] (Henshall had previously played Parlabane in a radio adaptation of the short story "Bampot Central"). Eddie Marsan, Annette Crosbie, Daniela Nardini and Mark Benton also starred. The drama was broadcast by ITV on 5 September 2004. Chris Brookmyre is a Scottish award-winning author of crime, suspense, mystery and thriller novels. I returned this book without finishing it but I did give it a good three hours before calling it a day. Scotland has often been depicted as a land of haunting, misty moors and literary genius. But Scotland has also been a place of brutal crime, terrifying murder, child abuse, and bank robbery. Crime can strike anywhere. I haven't read the book this is based on, or any others by this author, so came with little expectations apart from the fact that it stars James Nesbitt. Nesbitt delivers as usual and is as charming and amusing as the lame writing allows him to be, although certainly not as charming as he or the scriptwriters think he is.

Tessa’s disappearance in the summer of 1981 begins to look increasingly like murder, but the guilty will stop at nothing to keep the truth hidden.All the characters in this story are interesting, even the bad guy, who you really can't wait to see get his comeuppance. The pacing of the story keeps you guessing, but gets you to the end at a gallop.
