About this deal

However, you can also see potential weak points like the 2-pin connectors, which might bend if you put too much strain on the cable. Again another signpost that we are in the future too, just like the TRON Arena. The fact that this headphone cable has been crafted as an intertwining spiral with the right and left signals completely encased in their own glowing fabric encasement!

Their HOOK x HBB edition (calling them HOOK-X throughout the review) are an upgrade over the original HOOK-X, made in collaboration with an audiophile reviewer called Hawaiian Bad Boy (HBB).

The Raptgo Hook-X has an unashamedly fun tuning. But thanks to its technical prowess, it has good resolution, a good soundstage, clarity and dynamics. It’s an IEM where the music comes first, in the form of its tonality and musical presentation. It’s worth noting that vocals are sometimes on the edge of becoming sibilant, but they usually don’t cross that line. I’ve noticed some sibilance in the “Face It Alone” by Queen, or when playing video games, even at moderate volumes. So I have had this for roughly two months now, and can honestly say I am past the honeymoon period and my verdict has landed: These are spectacular.

Hook-X DriversThe Hook has an interesting driver combination. As far as I understand this is the first time these two driver technologies have ever been used in tandem and in the same shell. Raptgo used a 14.2 mm planar magnetic driver, driven by Neodymium N52 Magnets. The other driver is a custom designed 18 Layer Double-Sided Piezoelectric. Very cool to see a company break new ground and put their development skills to the test and out in the open. Especially in the time of the “Planar Wars”. They, too, use a 2-pin connection for the buds and over-the-ear wearing style. IEMs are even larger than the Hook but equally comfortable. The RAPTGO HOOK-X use the classic in-ear monitor type of design, with a triangular shape and an angled nozzle. They’re quite large, but mostly in terms of depth, so they should fit comfortably in most people’s ears (more on that later). The design itself is nothing special as the faceplates are pieces of metal with holes in them, which is hardly distinctive. The only concession to aesthetics is that the edges of the rims around the faceplates are bright green.

Want more like this.. perhaps it is the vented nature of the chassis which reduces listening fatigue In August of 2021 there was a Youtube video introducing the 7HZ Timeless IEM. This “Planar” was a new take implementing a 14.2mm planar membrane. Needless to say the 7Hz became a legend in our industry. Soon to follow was the Shuoer S12, a 14.8 Planar membrane. It too became the talk of legends. These two Planar IEMs have really laid the groundwork for this next new-generation of IEMs. If the 7Hz Timeless or Shuoer S12 are truly better, it will have to wait for another day as I’ve never heard the the two. Balanced connections are used to eliminate any rogue noise that ends up in the cable and could interfere with the listening experience. While strangely the company has named itself as a medical technology company! Or maybe it's actually a medical technology company who makes IEMs on the side? Overall, you’re getting a detailed sound performance that can easily beat most earbuds at this price.

RAPTGO x HBB HOOK-X are high-end in-ear monitors with a gorgeous design and detailed sound that will force you to relisten your entire music catalog. However, they only sound amazing 95% of the time. Drivers - IEMs use drivers to reproduce sound. These miniaturised driver components are like the ones used in full-size headphones but smaller. The drivers in IEMs include dynamic, balanced armature, planar magnetic, electrostatic, and hybrid drivers. All these drivers come with their lists of pros and cons. The Raptgo Hook X HBB is a fresh breath of air in this IEM world invade with Harman and DF neutral tuning and offers a muscular musicality that doesn’t bet on one specific frequency range and delivers full-bodied dynamic for bass, mids, and treble. Hook-X has a U-shaped sound signature. It’s on the warmer side of neutral, making it (at least for me) more emotionally engaging than something brighter and more analytical. The Hook X has a sound that’s warm enough to be comforting but clear and detailed enough to be exciting at the same time. Raptgo Hook-X frequency response. Bass

Video Rigoletto - “La donna e mobile” Sung by one of the three Tenors, great song for high-performing male vocals. Pavarotti is the greatest classic singer maybe ever. Fight me! You get 3 different types: standard unbalanced 3.5mm, and unbalanced 2.5mm, and 4.4mm. A set of balanced and unbalanced connectors and a proprietary 4-pin plug on the cable. Bass response of the Hook-X is, in my opinion, the standout quality of the IEM. While the sub-bass doesn’t reach all that low, the impact it provides is tight and incredibly controlled. The same can be said about the mid-bass, where you’ll also immediately notice the speed of the bass – fast and full of energy.
