About this deal

Osman added: “I’m so thrilled to be writing more Thursday Murder Club books at Viking, the gang couldn’t wish for a happier home. And I’ve been secretly excited for a while now about my new series, which I think readers will love. More details soon, I promise, but for now here’s a toast to more Joyce, Elizabeth, Ibrahim and Ron, and to some brand-new friends too.” Elizabeth has received a letter from an old colleague, a man with whom she has a long history. He's made a big mistake, and he needs her help. His story involves stolen diamonds, a violent mobster, and a very real threat to his life. He was born with nystagmus, an eye condition that significantly reduces his vision, he memorizes entire scripts since this condition makes it tough to read an autocue. Richard loves every sport, especially watching them. He remembers that when he was fifteen, staying up until after midnight to watch the 1985 snooker world final. Richard says that he is a major fan of crime fiction and believes it is the sort of book he would eventually write. Authors he likes include Agatha Christie, Patricia Highsmith, Jeffrey Deaver, Shari Lapena, and Harlan Coben. He feels that writing a mystery novel gives him the perfect excuse to think up a perfect murder, in case you should ever need one.As the cold case turns white hot, Elizabeth wrestles with her conscience (and a gun), while Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim chase down clues with help from old friends and new. But can the gang solve the mystery and save Elizabeth before the murderer strikes again? Osman will begin a new series in 2024, starring a father and daughter-in-law duo who run their own private investigation company which takes them around the world, solving mysteries that nobody else can. He told BBC News in July that his new series will be "a sort of Thursday Murder Club meets The Da Vinci Code", inspired by a recent visit to a bookshop. Bourton said: “Since the launch of his debut in 2020, Richard Osman has been entertaining millions of readers around the world who have taken his characters into their hearts. While the gang’s sleuthing will continue in future instalments of The Thursday Murder Club, we are extremely excited that with this new deal Richard will also be introducing us to a new series. The entire Viking team believe in Richard’s longevity as an exceptional storyteller, and this four-book deal marks Penguin’s long-term partnership with him: a career we are endlessly ambitious about.” I’m ‘dying’ to learn the title of the new book 4, due out in September 2023. Loved books 1-3 and have read them multiple times…just can’t sit to hear that Richard will continue to write more and more! Reply

The overall winner’s crowned on Friday. There’s also a primetime version of the show that airs on Friday nights. He wrote this novel in secret as he worked his other jobs before he sprung it on eager agents. In all, it took him eighteen months to write it. He gave it a month, then thought he quite liked it. Opening the new Osman is like sitting down to dinner with treasured friends you know are going to kill you - deliciously!' PETER JAMES Viking snapped up two further Thursday Murder Club novels and two in a new series to launch in 2024. Harriet Bourton, publisher, acquired UK rights from Osman’s agent Juliet Mushens at Mushens Entertainment. While working as the creative director at TV giant Endemol, he pitched the idea for Pointless to the BBC, becoming the co-presenter along with Alexander, when it began in 2009. He created the series where he’s jokingly referred to as Armstrong’s “pointless friend”. He previously worked exclusively in behind-the-camera roles for other shows. From 1989 until 1992, he studied Sociology and Politics at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was a contemporary of Pointless co-presenter Alexander Armstrong, who read English Literature. Except trouble is never far away where the Thursday Murder Club is concerned. A decade-old cold case leads them to a local news legend and a murder with no body and no answers. If Richard told the sixteen year old version of himself that he would end up writing a book, he would say, yes of course, it makes total sense. This is because at sixteen, he spent all his time with some paper and a pen, mainly just writing down jokes. Younger him would be incredibly proud of writing a novel however the first thing he would ask is how many copies did he sell? I am halfway through The Thursday Murder Club. Am finding it an absolutely clever, witty and well crafted book to read. The characters are charming. Every day I can’t wait to sit with a coffee and this book to read a while. I enjoyed reading the Thursday Murder Club and The Man who died Twice. The original introducing senior citizens as people real people who have much to contribute to our Society still, was genius. The characters and their foibles both witty and endearingly recognisable, the genre captivating without the in depth blood guts and gore impressive, overall an entertaining read leaving you wanting more, hats off to Mr Osman and thank you. Reply All across the USA, people are showing up dead. The deaths don't appear to be connected in any way until one particular death occurs and gets the Secretary of Defense's attention. He arranges for a task force to investigate. The idea came to him when he had a perfectly pleasant yet uneventful lunch to his mom’s friend in a retirement community. He noticed that the people were busy and rushing everywhere. Richard started chatting and found there to be some wit, talent, a sense of mischief, and wisdom of that generation. Then he thought it would be a great setting for a murder story. Then throw the very worst at each of them and see how they are able to deal with it. But when a brutal killing takes place on their very doorstep, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of their first live case.
