About this deal

Laughed out loud at work listening to this! If you like the Aisling books, I'd recommend this one and vice versa. I love Mammy Banter on TikTok and I love this book. Listening to Serena reading her own book with her Derry accent added a little something special to add. Really enjoyed this one. This was a hilarious and remarkably honest look at being not just a Mammy but also about whether you can be yourself too.

Mammy Banter: The Secret Life of an Uncool Mum

This was a hoot! Really enjoyed every bit! Parenting, finding yourself, romance, friendship, work, and more!A hilarious warts-and-all novel about modern motherhood – and how having it all sometimes isn’t what you think it might be. Mammy Banter lost stars for Character development, problematic "feminism" and just over all annoyance. Though I wanted to punch Gemma at times, the way she treated her mom went beyond teen stuff at times. I mean, I remember being pretty ugh at times, but I wasn’t that bad. Plus… well there were other factors as well at play in my case. Later in the book she got way better and even was sweet towards her mom. Which made me smile. Just a shame some bad/unhappy things had to happen first before she started to treat her mom with respect. It’s time for a mammy makeover. She’s going to show her teenage daughter she’s still cool. Show her husband she’s still an absolute ride. And show her colleagues she’s still a Boss Bish. This is a laugh out loud, hilarious account of the life of Tara, a married, 36-year-old mother of 3. The trials and tribulations of being a mother, a wife, a friend, and a colleague come through so well and in a hilarious manner.

This story like the narrator was hilarious. Some of the things to come out of Tara's mouth I've said myself (on a weekly basis I tell my husband Im going to punch him in thd balls because of our children 😆) so listening to this was Iike sitting down and having a vent with my best friends.

Not only is she battling with her teenage daughter and two little boys she is also fighting her way to the top in work, with some difficulty. Overall, this is one of those novels where you want to keep reading, it makes you smile, laugh, and reminisce about the good ol’ times. A definite book to make your day or week even better. I will add that Paul is an absolute diamond in this book, he is patient, and loving and lets Tara have her “moment”. But, he ultimately reminds her that she is still the person he fell in love with and that she is an 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗘 😆 Tara has realized that between motherhood and her office job she has all but lost herself some where in between. Can Tara juggle, a teen, two kids under six, her husband, a full-time job and find herself ?

Mammy Banter by Serena Terry | Waterstones

Tara Gallagher is the main character who seems to think her daughter does not think she is cool as she reaches her teenage years. Tara is trying to manage it all with 3 children. She is very funny in how she describes things and you find yourself laughing along with her and cheering her own. From the creator of viral Tiktok sensation, Mammy Banter, comes a hilarious warts-and-all novel about modern motherhood – and how having it all sometimes isn’t what you think it might be. It’s the perfect book to disappear into. It’s fun, real and a real worthy addition to the bookshelf. It’s great to curl up with at the end of the day and I thoroughly recommend getting the audiobook as well for a great experience of this book. Beyond brilliant! But most of all, she’s going to prove to herself that she can still be a mom, still work full time, and still be Beyoncé… Wasn’t sure about this one at first as I thought it was a little bit typical “mummy diaries” type thing but I’m so glad I persevered because this book gave me SO MANY BELLY LAUGHS 🤣 My only criticism is that I wanted Tara to realise that she was the problem. Her thoughts, self-belief and self-esteem needed some working on, I know that wasn’t the premise of this book, but it would have been lovely to see her realising and making some necessary changes rather than pulling down the other women (in particular) around her to make herself feel better. But most of all, she’s going to prove to herself that she can still be a mum, still work full time, and still be Beyoncé… And this might be the best narrated book I’ve ever listened too. Not only is it narrated by the author, Serena Terry, but it is so brilliantly acted and performed, that you can really honestly put yourself straight slap bang into the middle of the book and get swept up into the frantic life of Tara and her brood.
