About this deal

The pace did slow a little in the middle, and the title didn't seem to fit with the plot I was reading... I loved the vivid descriptions of this Greek island, but I found the characters to be a little one dimensional and I was annoyed at all the red flags that Alice ignored; however, in Sue Watson's signature style, she creates a complex, layered plot that will have you guessing about everyone and everything. Who exactly can Alice trust? All he wants is pineapple yoghurt. It might be his dying wish and I can’t find a pot anywhere. It’s the least I can do for my husband, now lying in bed at home with nothing left of his life, just a tube in his arm and a vague desire for pineapple in fermented milk.

There, she meets new friend, Wedding Planner Sylvia, also she has a random meeting with the very handsome, very single older, Nik Kouris. I give this book 5 stars, hands down!… I COULD NOT put this book down… Holy cow. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen – PLOT TWIST!’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Working as a television producer, Stella Weston feels that she has been put out to pasture on a religious gardening programme. Dealing with an extremely nervous vicar along with his somewhat nymphomaniac wife, Stella feels that she is at a loose end with it all. Balancing both her home life and her professional one over the years, she feels that time is now right to quit her job and move on to new territory. This appears to be harder than she first expected though, as she attempts to make amends with the world around her, whilst also looking to the future. Can she really make the leap? Will she find her new life at home sufficiently rewarding? What will become of fat girls and fairy cakes?

Utterly impossible to put down. I devoured this book in just one sitting… Gripped me from the beginning… There is absolutely no way I could predict where this was going… Will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. You’ll be gripped.’ Little Miss Book Lover 87 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As usual from the beginning I was totally engrossed in the story. Alice’s life is a bit if a mess, she has recently broken up with her husband and is also carrying the weight of not being able to conceive, something she desperately wanted with Dan. My only gripe would be that somewhere in the middle there was a bit of a lag that I had to push through. I think there was just enough build and I was metaphorically standing there tapping my foot, waiting for the dynamite to ignite and the story to take that downhill turn towards the climax and conclusion. Originally from Manchester, Sue now lives with her family in Worcestershire where much of her day is spent writing - okay, procrastinating. Her hobby is eating cake, while watching diet and exercise programmes from the sofa, a skill she's perfected after many years of practice.

Born in Manchester in the United Kingdom, Sue Watson was always interested in storytelling, showing a clear passion for literature from an early age. Becoming a journalist she would constantly be writing for a large audience, as she would take inspiration from the world around her. Following this she would go on to work in television, working as a producer, all the while using her time there as inspiration for her writing as well. Her time spent working at the BBC would come to influence her heavily over the years, something which can be seen reflected within her work. Studying copiously has also made her the writer that she currently is today, allowing her to articulate both herself and her stories. The pace is slow for most of the book. Alice, a divorcee, tries to escape her past in the UK and heads for the Greek island of Corfu. Before she knows it, Alice is getting married to Nik, and has a new best friend, the glamourous Sylvie. The tension and suspense build throughout this book. The characters are well developed, but Alice grated on my nerves. As the story progresses, everything is not quite as it seems, some things are just too good to be true. I felt the story dragged for a bit in the middle. There were a couple of predictable twists, but there was one big, fantastic twist I never saw coming. The thing is, Alice left legal problems behind in the UK. She also left her sister very worried about her, always a protective mother hen to her. Alice is determined to prove that she can make her own decisions in life even if that means staying in picturesque Greece. Nik owns a bountiful vineyard and it does not take Alice long to imagine being married to Nik at the vineyard and living an entirely new life. So when she spots Dan, Valentines Day, of all days, in the local Tesco, while preparing to drown her sorrows with the help of her favourite wine, and he’s being accompanied by his new PREGNANT gf.After sending Bella a Christmas card for years with no response, a few years before I'd decided to add something more personal- one of Mum's recipes. I had included various Christmas recipes each year since, from gingerbread to chocolate and cranberry brownies- Bella's favorite as a child. I saw these as a reminder of the good times we'd shared and hoped she'd feel the same. Just writing down those recipes reminded me of Mum in her kitchen- the soft, wobbly fold of flour into butter, the grit of sugar, the heady fragrance of chocolate, sweet vanilla and the warmth of ginger.” The twists and turns kept on coming, and while I did guess one, this in no way detracted from the story. She puts too much trust in her new friends and surroundings, until, the moment the rose coloured glass fall away. Loved!!!!! … OMG … I was left speechless … Fabulous and such a rollercoaster ride of emotions for me… So spectacular .’ Blue Moon Blogger, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Alice is your classic troubled character with a past and it is this which makes her a perfect unreliable narrator. The author cleverly explores the depths of Alice's traumatised mind, and this, along with a host of other richly drawn characters, means you, as the reader, never quite know who you can trust. I loved the setting and could almost picture the beautiful scenery and vineyards and the warmth of the Greek sun.
