About this deal

The first of a handful of light trails across the North East this winter is already under way. Sunderland's Festival of Light has been taking place since Thursday October 12 and has added new lighting features, including a projection onto the rear of Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens.

Northern Lights is set to debut in Leazes Park this year to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the city centre green space, and has already been billed as one of the top trails in the country. There will be 10 - 12 light attractions along a mile-long accessible route, as well as a Christmas village with food and drink stalls among the way. Another new addition to this year’s Bay of Lights is ‘Santa by the Sea’. Wrapped up warm in his seaside 'gingerbread' lit up hut, Santa will be ready to greet guests with warmth and merriment. Located at Pier Point Restaurant & Bar in Torquay, this bookable experience promises festive fun for the whole family. Santa will be spreading holiday cheer daily from December 16 - 23 between noon and 6pm. Every visit supports a noble cause, as all profits will be donated to Rowcroft Hospice. This session will enable visitors with additional needs to experience our attraction in a comfortable and non-threatening environment. New for 2023 is ‘GloWild’ at Paignton Zoo. To celebrate their centenary year, this festive event promises to be an immersive light experience featuring a variety of beautiful, interactive light installations, entertainers and even a silent disco. The crash, which happened around 10 p.m. PT, caused the fireworks to go off, resulting in flashes and explosions above the highway. The Golden Snowflake’ will take visitors on an exciting journey with Jingle the Elf as he visits old friends and discovers new places in his quest to bring the Golden Snowflake home. Festival goers can also enjoy live music in the bandstand, 'Selfie Lane' and a sparkling light tunnel. The fairy trail, which saw its debut in Australia earlier this year, will lead visitors through a woodland glade to an illuminated fairy door.

We can't wait to unveil a host of spectacular installations that will immerse visitors in the festive spirit in 2023." The journey at Paignton Zoo will begin with a giant illuminated storybook inviting visitors to step into a magical world. From there they will venture around the zoo and be amazed by a variety of bright, colourful, and interactive light installations which includes fibre optics and kaleidoscope projectors. There will be giant lit-up trees and tunnels, a magical wishing well, playful illuminated creatures and much more. The event will take place on selected dates between November 17 to January 2, with entry beginning from 5pm.

With so much to see and do during this festive period, visitors are encouraged to ‘make a weekend of it’ to experience as much of the Bay of Lights as possible and enjoy the fantastic hospitality that the English Riviera has to offer. Many local businesses will be running special offers throughout the Bay of Lights. For more details visit here.
