About this deal

Fascinating series. Couldn't put it down or turn it off. Absolutely fantastic stories and acting. But the last season wasn't up to par and it wasn't the regular's fault. Someone changed something in the formula that you can't quite put a finger on but it was noticeable in some of the episodes (filming was jerky, like emulating real life videos, one episode was done all in white, a few were done in blue overtones and other artsy stuff). It completely ruined the series, culminating in a cancellation that I agreed with. Murderer P.O.V.: One way for the show to start seeing the murder from the murderer's point of view. Alternatively we get to see a highly significant but cryptic action taken just before or just after. Exposition Victim: Tony is the very worst at this. When he gets cornered by a psychotic killer about to torture him to death, his first priority seems to be figuring out why, rather than trying to defend himself. That this is completely in-character for Tony, of all people, makes this a rather unconventional use of this trope. The fact that questioning the killer, getting into their head and manipulating them is the one way Tony is likely to survive gives us quite a few Moments Of Awesome. Tony and Carol think they've scored early when two murders lead to one man. The trouble is that the man is in prison; could he really be controlling it all from the inside?

The Wire in the Blood: Book 2 by Val McDermid | Goodreads

Talking to the Dead: Tony does a lot of this. It can be exceptionally unnerving when the in-world visuals seamlessly drift into what Tony is seeing and who he is talking to. Based on Val McDermid’s best selling novel The Last Temptation, “ Falls the Shadow” sees a confused Tony named as the main suspect when an Experimental Psychologist’s mutilated body is discovered in her hotel room, with Dr Hill’s blood and fingerprints all over the crime scene. Tony also finds himself a prime suspect in a police investigation when a woman who tries to seduce him is found dead. When human remains are found on wasteland, Alex brings Tony to investigate theories of honour killings and fetishism. But the killer has Tony in his sights and the inquiry becomes frighteningly personal. For example, in one episode a killer uses BDSM as a smokescreen to kidnap, imprison, abuse, rape and finally kill his victims - all of whom seemed to be amateur enthusiasts who didn't understand the lifestyle and hence could be manipulated.

Robson Green ( Soldier Soldier, Northern Lights) stars as dysfunctional psychologist Dr Tony Hill in hit ITV1 series, Wire in the Blood. Based on the characters of prize-winning author Val McDermid, Dr Hill’s unique insight into the fractured mind proves invaluable in the hunt for the murderers and rapists terrorising the northern town of Bradfield.

The scriptwriting doesn't really live up to the characters in my opinion, but it's decent enough. Considering that i have read several of Val McDermids novels and liked none of them the writing in this series far exceeded my expectations. McDermids writing is simplistic and unimaginative in my opinion and the only real aspects from the novels that has been transferred to this show is the gratuitous nature of the crimes.

Tony often experiences vivid visions of the murdered victims during his cases, which he usually ignores, or at least never brings up when he sees them while surrounded by other people. Both in the books and the TV series. Tony is also seen talking to these visions in an attempt to understand the crimes, and sometimes is even seen acting out the murders in his mind, anything from imagining stabbing a housewife to death in Sharp Compassion to beating and shooting a young man in the head in From the Defeated. The question as to whether this is evidence of Tony's holistic genius in trying to understand the killer's motive or rather a more sinister psychological disturbance in his mind is left open to debate. Very seldom will you find a British murder mystery TV series of this quality were "every single episode is great" not just OK, but great. The series has appeared in the United States on the cable channel BBC America, in Australia on the public channel ABC, and in New Zealand on TV 1. As of May 2014, the show is screening on British televisions on the channel ITV3. The show is currently available on the Hulu Streaming service in the U.S. It began running on Acorn TV in 2018. The show is also now available on the streaming service BritBox. [4] Home releases [ edit ] Death Equals Redemption: Occurs with Maggie Thomas in "Still She Cries". Maggie talks to Tony and helps him with cases because she's obsessed with him and thinks he's in love with her, but she reveals that as she's beginning to regret what she did in killing those people, she's starting to become tormented by their voices. She commits suicide, but uses her final moments to draw Tony a map with her own blood of where he'll find the bodies of her victims. Big Secret: Often a suspect in an investigation has a Dark Secret, usually something deeply personal or that they don't want to share with the police, sometimes completely unrelated to the crime at hand. Typically Tony will be busy into uncovering it when he realizes the real game is miles away and about to go bad. The Killer Was Left-Handed: Often. The standard Wire In The Blood killer would be an impotent left-hander. Tony finds himself in unfamiliar surroundings when he travels to Texas to assist the local district attorney in the case of Darius Grady, who is accused of murdering his wife and two children.
