About this deal

An 8 degree FOV would make star hopping a snap. At 5.5 degrees, I often need to make leaps of faith to get to the next star. The cheap ones have faster objectives and smaller eyepieces and prisms. It is ok for them to have more astigmatism in the outer field because they are used hand held. People pan around and bring the area of interest to the center. In the case of board building materials, the threadless part of the screw must not be longer than the fixture, and the UX with rim is to be used.

I imagine a premium eyepiece adding some torque to the finder and being a bit concerning living there unattended during a session. But it also would give better views than simple eyepieces. I would feel comfortable leaving a Plossl in there all the time. With a 1.25" focuser, I can do either at a later date I suppose. It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so. Shouldn't be a problem for owling or hunting, but you probably wouldn't want them to tighten the focuser on your 8x32 model, which you probably focus with a lot more. Helical focuser: Easy to get optimal focus. That GSO or Orion focuser is difficult to focus and it's unlikely to be in sharp focus.

The SV-50 is more than just a finder, it is like having a 50mm RFT right there on the main scope. I have good quality 70mm and 80mm finders but I have found the 50mm to be more effective, it offers a much wider field of view along with sufficient aperture for a finder. Thanks to these features, Ultravid binoculars are ideal companions even on challenging tours. There are very few manufacturers who offer such a sophisticated and wide product range of premium binoculars. All models combine precise and robust mechanisms, high transmission, maximum stray-light suppression and brilliant contrast for perfect image sharpness – no matter which front lens diameter and magnification factor you use. Whether as a small companion on day trips, or as a leading light for observation at night - the Ultravid HD-Plus binoculars are the ideal all-rounders for the perfect viewing experience. im new to birdforum, and newbie of binoculars. i just had a good deal with leica 8x50 BN Trinovid 40069. I thought the Uppendahl-equipped Trinnies were the first generaton and had never heard of this fascinating beast. Thanks for the explanation and the pic.

Steiner Navigator Pro 7x50 Binoculars are an ideal choice for outdoor and sporting activities. The floating prism system makes it easier to see in low-light conditions, as well as for prolonged periods of use. The Makrolon housing is extremely durable, lightweight, and weatherproof. Read Review This evening, I will measure mine against a star using my digital level. The level is accurate to 0.1 degree so I can measure the range with a star at the top of the field and a star at the bottom. I should be close. Compact and easy to carry, the dimensions of the MONARCH 7 30mm binocular are 4.7 inches long by 4.8 inches wide, making it more portable than ever before. When buying binoculars, most people look for magnification. However, there are other considerations that are equally important. For example, do you need waterproof binoculars? Are binoculars for birding or other activities? Do you need tripod adapters and to what extent will you use them? These are all questions that you must ask before buying your next pair of binoculars. Is there any way to determine when these 8x50s were made? The best way would be to send a private message to Birdforum member garymh - note that Gary may take a while to respond because of work commitments.

Why is it vital to evaluate certain qualities while selecting the best product for your requirements and circumstances? So, for a finder, 60 degrees is easily doable and cheap. It would help find stuff. But the finder is mounted. You are more likely to notice the edge astigmatism when you keep the scope still. Also, Erfles have less eye relief. Hand held, holding them against your face stabilizes them. Mounted, bumping the eyepiece shakes the view. Kelners have more eye relief, more even than Plossls for the same field of view. With a host of features including WA eyepieces; 7.5° (8x32), 7.0° (8x42) plus excellent close focus ability, each Discovery WP PC offers the value conscious customer a stylish user friendly field glass. Not many of us have used or even seen them but two that have are Hermann (post #4 above) and Altavista, who commented on it here: https://www.birdforum.net/showpost.php?p=4032574&postcount=54

Celestron luminos is only 82 deg and not a nagler clone attempt I heard. Meade also does not have 68 deg. I’ve decided there’s not much point in a detailed description of the 8x50 Ultravid since it is about to be replaced and you seem to have already elliminated it. I will say that it is not a binocular that I would be tempted to buy for several reasons. One is the eyecup which is too short for me and I think will be too short for many other people as well. Another is the ungenerous field width. I also thought the image quality was significantly inferior to the FL in almost every way. It was dimmer, less sharp and had a very large amount of lateral chromatic aberration. Lateral color is the form of chromatic aberration that occurs when different colors have increasingly different magnifications away from the field center. It is much more obvious in binoculars than longitudinal CA from the objective lens. You can tell you’re seeing lateral color if the color fringe of an object is a different color on the side facing the field center than on the side facing the field edge and the fringing gets worse as you approach the field edge. Longitudinal CA produces the same color fringe in every direction and is constant over the whole field. I’m used to seeing, and ignoring, lateral color at the edge of the field, but in the 8x50 Ultravid it begins to show up quite close to the center and can be seen directly on axis with just a little pupil decentering of the sort that happens constantly when handholding binoculars. This made it impossible for me to achieve a completely secure, clean focus. The 8x56 FL has no lateral color at all across the center half of it’s field and only a modest amount at the edge. I’ve looked through a lot of binoculars and I haven’t found another that is quite as free of aberrations in the field center as the 8x56 FL . If only Zeiss would see fit to add an astigmatism correcting and field flattening group to the eyepiece I would have no complaint.
