Waitrose shoppers may wish to look elsewhere. Its pricey fillets – and freezer-aisle staple Birds Eye – trail our scoreboard, along with Iceland. Tahini toffee pudding by Reem Kassis. Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special. We publish feature articles written by locals with secret insight for your vacation or for those considering moving to live in Italy. From the best restaurants to dine in to the up-and-coming bars, from the most charming places to explore in Tuscany to the best day spas to relax, we’ve got your covered with our guides on discovering Florence. Some brands are also healthier than others: Young's has the most calories and salt per 100g, and it's also gone big on the saturated fat too, with more than twice as much as all the other fillets we tried. By contrast Morrisons is a healthier choice but still fares well for taste. How to cook battered fish fillets For those who did their shopping in-store, we asked them to rate the shop's appearance is as well as queuing times. We also asked whether there are friendly staff available to help with any queries. It's impossible to resist a gooey, fudgy chocolate brownie. Or perhaps you prefer a lighter, more cakey texture? If there's one thing both camps can agree on, it's that a bland, bone-dry brownie is a no-go.Aldi is the only in-store supermarket to have been named a WRP this year. It came joint-second with Waitrose was the highest-rated for value for money along with fellow discounter Lidl – both were got four stars out of five. Aldi received five stars for value for money last year, but no supermarket did this time.

I would like to make some of these for Christmas giving, how far in advance do you think these could be made? Simon Hopkinson’s roast leg of lamb with anchovy, garlic and rosemary. Photograph: Romas Foord/The Observer Fergus Henderson’s salted chocolate and caramel tart Stalls selling street food, fresh produce, clothing and household goods stretch for a kilometre along the north bank of the Arno river, through the Parco delle Cascine. This large, green park just outside the city centre is perfect for a walk and a picnic after you’ve finished shopping at the market, where you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to picnic foods. The oldest, largest and most famous market in Florence sits undercover inside a striking building which dates from the turn of the last century when the city was Italy’s capital. Designed by architect Giovanni Mengoni, who was also behind the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, the building has two floors with distinctly different architectural styles, atmospheres, and produce for sale. You'll compromise slightly on aroma and texture (more than a quarter of tasters thought the batter wasn't crispy enough), but the flavour was still highly rated overall. Absolutely divine, better than my old recipe for making these using condensed milk. A definite keeper. Thank you for sharing.

This recipe is delicious!! Thank you so much for posting it. I am struggling to get the paper strip off the bottom of the Florentine once it’s out of the tray…any thoughts on how to easily remove it? Florentines are a combination of flaked or sliced nuts, dried fruits and a caramel coating and while you’d be forgiven for thinking they’re an Italian cookie, the origin is not really known however they are believed to actually be a French creation. These must be such beautiful little bags. Such a treat to receive them. Thank you so much for using my recipe and letting me know 🙂Florence has two permanent covered markets with interesting architecture and plenty of history, as well as many different weekly and monthly markets held around the streets and squares. A visit to these much-loved Florence food markets really is a must while you’re in the city as not only can you shop and sample the delicious Tuscan cuisine , but you’ll also experience a real slice of city life.

Online grocery deliveries became a lifeline during the pandemic and remain so for many. Ocado has jumped to first place for online shopping after finishing joint-second last year, beating the previous winner Iceland , which has now swapped places with Ocado to come joint-second with Waitrose. I fixed it in the second batch, just using a baking sheet with baking paper and pushing the dollops together on the baking sheet before baking. However, Waitrose was rated more highly than Iceland for its range of products and customer service at collection and delivery, where it received five stars, and quality, where it was rated four stars. Iceland was rated more highly for the availability of its collection and delivery slots, with five stars. Mix together the butter, sugar, honey and flour in a saucepan over low heat until the sugar dissolves. Our tasters weren't as sold on the look of these fillets as they were on M&S, but for everything else it's more than a match. Nearly all thought both the flavour of the fish and the density and crunch of the batter were just right. So happy you love them, Maddie. I wouldn’t suggest reducing the sugar as it’s what caramelises and helps them hold together. The historic ground floor market area boasts countless stalls piled high with meats and cheeses, and many of these stalls are owned by the third or fourth generation of the same family that has traded here since the place was built. You can find Florentine butchers displaying every cut imaginable, seemingly endless varieties of artisan cheeses for sale, and shop at fresh fish stalls beloved by some of the best chefs in Florence.
