Once installed, I was asked to set up an account, and then a firmware update was pushed, and I was up and running. Power is supplied via an internal, rechargeable battery that can be charged in 2 hours to provide up to 60 hours of continuous use. The smartphone app is well designed, well thought out, easy and intuitive to use, and in my experience so far, has a stable connection, unlike many offerings in the BBQ world that tend to suffer occasional disconnection.
Design: We took into consideration each model's probes, the ability to read the digital display, button placement and labeling, and magnet attachment or any other characteristics that made it easy to use. Once you set the desired temperature, insert the probe into the center of the meat and begin grilling. You can monitor the temperature graph on your phone, but the app will notify you when the food is ready. CR’s take: The Meater Plus is a darling of the barbecue world, and it’s easy to see why. For starters, the Meater has exceptionally robust alarm settings. Not only will it ping you when your food is ready, but it will also let you know if the ambient air temperature in your grill drops too low. (This comes in handy when you need to adjust your dampers or add more charcoal). The app also chimes again when resting time is complete.

The app comes with a variety of meat and temperature presets. An interesting feature is the temperature chart that displays the temperature over time. Once the probe senses the desired temperature, it sends a “chirping” alarm and a text telling you the meat is done. It’s my understanding that each thermometer puts an electrical current across thermometer probe, and the resistance of the probe changes with heat so that the reading device can detect the change in current and / or voltage, and from this determine the temperature. The screen on the controller is 3.3 x 1.75 inches and 256 x 128 pixels. It is bright, high contrast, and easy to read with large numbers and lettering. It shows you all the data you could possibly want or need right on the controller, including temperature over time graphs. The Fireboard 2 supports two types of probes: RTD probes for measuring extreme temperatures between -58 °F and 715 °F, or the more typical, faster response time thermistor type that is best for BBQ. And it’s the thermistor type that it ships with.
Because the readout on the unit is small, they give you color-coded visual cues. The ring around the display window changes color as the temperature of your meat gets closer to the set temperature:Price Relative to the Competition- Is a particular meat thermometer’s price worth it? If so, why? If not, then why? Does it have VALUE for the price? You set the temperature alarm by tapping “Set Up Cook.” The app pops up a list with dozens of preset temperature options. If you can’t find the preset you want, create your own. You’ll find almost any meat, fish or poultry plus options for hot smoke, cold smoke, and barbecue. Functionality and Features If you’re using a thermometer with a rechargeable battery (like the MEATER), it’s important to always return it to the charger when after each use. The last thing you want is to reach for your meat thermometer when you need it most, only to find the battery has died. For thermometers that require disposable batteries, be sure you always have extra so you don’t run out mid-cook. And, as with all gadgets (especially ones you use for cooking), store all of the components together. There are plenty of more expensive and less-expensive Bluetooth thermometers on the market, but what are you getting for the money?
If you're willing to give up some of the TP20's more advanced features, such as presets, ThermoPro also offers its TP08S Digital Wireless Meat Thermometer, which has the same wireless range and temperature range but costs a little less. If you’ve been here before you know I’ve reviewed all of these meat thermometers on this list and will continue to monitor them in case anything changes. We appreciate how easy it was to position this device; the adjustable angle of the thermometer's face makes it easy to read the large digital display when set on the counter, and it could also adhere to a metal surface thanks to its magnet. The latter is how our writer Irvin Lin uses his, which is attached to the top of his stove. Utilizing an optional grate clip, he can easily see both the oven temperature and the meat's temperature. Overall, we're very impressed with the functionality of this thermometer, especially considering its fairly modest price tag.The app is rich with data, while also being easy to use and offers a simple interface of important temperatures if that is all you want. Its range and incredibly versatile app are just some of the great aspects of the ThermoPro TempSpike. This waterproof thermometer is able to hold a charge for up to three months, and the probe can be used for up to 36 hours before losing its charge. Additionally, the charging case itself is a signal repeater for extending its range and has a built-in speaker in case you're not paying attention to your phone.
