About this deal

You’re proud of what you’ve achieved. Your Girl Scout uniform shows how much you’ve accomplished—and that you’re ready for what’s next. And each part of your Girl Scout uniform is as unique as you are. Andyou’redone! The stitchesdon’thave to bereally neat, it’s all about having the badges on your uniform and learning a new skillif you’ve never done it before. Girl Scouts from each grade level have one official uniform item (a sash, vest, or tunic) to display badges, pins, awards, and other insignia. This item is required when you participate in ceremonies or officially represent Girl Scouts. You can wear your sash, vest, or tunic over official Girl Scout gear or over a white shirt and khaki pants or skirt. Depending on grade level, official uniform items may be blue, brown, green, or khaki. Union flag badge -this badge should be worn at international events,on the left shoulder of the uniform top. All girls should have a uniform top and bottom chosen from the Brownie uniform range. These can be worn for unit meetings, trips and events where formal uniform is needed.

Now with slits on one side, the other side can be threaded through so there’s no longer any need for a badge sash pin. Leadership is a personal journey. This badge will help Rangers explore the six leadership mindsets to grow in their leadership practice, skills, knowledge, and confidence. I sewed my DDs' onto the sash, then when they went to Guides, I sewed the whole sash onto a camp blanket. A Guide completes a few different activities to enable Leaders to get to know rangatahi as well as introduce them to the Guide programme and rangatahi in the Unit. Once they have completed these activities a Guide Promise Ceremony takes place and they receives her Promise Badge. Yeah sure it is slightly like a wedding ceremony and the preparation to remember your promise is an extreme duty. Sure you’ll be guided along if you stumble but you wanted to show who was boss by memorising it all the night before. Yes, I did exactly that.

The Guide Programme structure is based around the opportunity to gain three Endeavour Badges. The requirements for each badge are slightly different but include: Exploration Challenge badges, Unit badges, Interest badges and Camp badges. I’ve diligently sewn all DD’s brownies badges on to her sash. Then we ran out of room. We started on a second sash. Now that’s almost full...

Interest badges are for a Guide to plan and complete herself. The interest badges are designed to allow rangatahi to explore topics and activities, and to challenge themselves to improve skills in areas of interest. GirlGuiding New Zealand uses Online Guide Manager (OGM) to manage all Guiding administration online. Place double-sided tape on the underside of the sash at the seam that will sit on the girl's shoulder. Each year there are different events that take place that a Brownie may get a badge for their participation. This might include a day event, Community Action Project or a Brownie Camp. If pledging your allegiance to God and the Queen wasn’t enough this song had you skipping about singing: “We’re joined together in our wish to try to do our best.” What a tune, right? A little bit pledge of allegiance vibes, yeah, but who cares – it’s Brownies! 2. Walking through an archway to become an official BrownieExperienced Brownie mum and Snowy Owl: sew the badges onto a camp blanket she can take up to Guides with her - so not the brown Brownie blankets GG sells. The Guide Programme is broken down into four Exploration Challenge areas. Guides will complete one badge from each Exploration Challenge area for each of the three Endeavour badges. Whilst completing these rangatahi will get to take part in a wide range of outdoor activities including hikes, water activities, ropes course, orienteering, outdoor games, as well as learning the safety around these different activities, they will have the opportunity to serve in the community by painting murals and planting trees, learn about different aspects of the Māori Culture. Guides also have the option to make Guiding visible within the community, learn how they can make an impact on the environment, make home-made cleaning products, learn how to express feelings, learn about peer pressure and how to deal with it, take part in activities with other Guide Units, take part in browsing on the internet safely, and learn about safety around the home including evacuation planning. Totally new to all this so I was wondering if there are any rules and special placings that I have to abide by? I can barely even work out what bit of the sash to sew them onto. All you need is a needle, threadand pair of scissors. It’salso helpful to have some pins to keep the badge in place while you’re sewing. Cut a piece of thread, tie a double knot in one end and put the thread through the needle. Then, go from underneath the uniform and then go up and down along the edge of the badge all the way around, until you get to where you started.Cut the thread from underneath the uniform and tie a double knot. The traditional way to attach badges to uniform is to sew them on.It’sthe cheapest way to do it and will never leave a mark on your uniform when you take the badge off to put on a camp blanket. And it’s not as hard as it sounds!

It is very possible the promise has changed since I was a Brownie but nonetheless the theme of the Queen being our saviour is apparent. You had to promise to do your best, stay true to yourself, to help others and to serve the Queen and community and to keep the Brownie Guide Law. The law was actually pretty cute and set a pathway for thousands of girls across the world: “A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself and does a good turn every day.” Respect to that. Good values. Throughout the Ranger journey Rangers will problem-solve, accept new challenges, volunteer, advocate, gain knowledge and skills, have fun, explore, and adventure into the outdoors and your community. We live in a digital world, so considering their online presence and safety is part of Ranger Skills too. The Pathway Badge provides Rangers with the skills to fully participate in all aspects of the Ranger Programme. The skills they learn will make them a valued member of any Unit team and will equip them with confidence for a leadership experience. We encourage members to wear a uniform to show they’re part of the Girlguiding family. Brownies wear a top and a pair of bottoms. I still find this bizarre to this day. Albeit at my Brownies we always called our leaders by their first name because the owl thing just never worked but all my friends at different units would refer to their leaders as Brown Owl, Snowy Owl, and Tawny Owl. Why? I have absolutely zero clue. Interest badges, skills builders and awards- Girls can choose where to sew these badges. The badge sash is a popular option, and some girls add badges to their gilets or skorts. Remembering all this, do have fun. There are lots of really nice fellow Girl Guides out there to write to over the Internet. Just remember to be aware and be a Savvy Surfer!
