There’s also 20GB of onboard storage alongside a microSD card slot, so plenty of storage options for safely recording FPV videos.
Still, this is a great beginner drones for adults, as opposed to the less costly options which (other than the Altair models) are generally designed to work as beginner drones for kids. You need collision avoidance: Unlike the Mini 3 Pro, the Mini 3 doesn’t feature the added safety net of obstacle avoidance to keep you clear of trees. Technically a step down from the Mavic 3, the Classic edition lands at a lower price by losing the telephoto camera of its pricier sibling. While it’s not a budget choice, this simplified setup makes the Classic a more cost-effective option for videographers. The Mambo is a bit of a toy, as evidenced by the presence of gripping arm and pellet-shooting gun attachments in the box, but it’s a decent starter drone. Controlled from the screen of your smartphone or tablet, the Mambo has both downward-facing sonar sensors and a camera, which means you can take your thumbs off the controls and be confident that the drone won’t crash and burn the moment your attention drifts. You need telephoto zoom: Twin telephoto lenses give the Mavic 3 Pro excellent versatility, with 166mm and 70mm cameras. Skydio, an American firm, was founded by MIT graduates who had also been involved in Google’s ‘Project Wing.’ As that heritage implies, it focuses on autonomy which makes it a different beast to many on this list; in its cheapest configuration, it doesn’t even come with a radio controller, relying instead on the excellent phone app and wi-fi. This limits it to a 200m (646ft) range, but that is plenty for the aircraft to follow or even orbit someone, keeping them in the frame, and avoiding anything in the way.
