A story about how she fell for two boys, betrayed one of them, and killed the other. Ketchup Clouds is a compelling, sometimes funny, often heartbreaking and always original story of a young girl's guilt and fear, it's also a story of new beginnings and hope. The characters become real, the writing is engaging and very very special.

If I could feel it for you, I would,'he murmured and honest truth I would have given anything to push my pain right into his chest.” At first, I found such passages hugely funny, yet out of tune. In fact, they deepen the complexity of Zoe's feelings for Harris. The nearer he approaches death, the more intimate she becomes. He is not only her confidant but her proxy – it transpires that his wife was having an affair with his brother. Perhaps there is something unconsciously punitive, and therefore self-punishing, in this blithe ghoulishness.

At Max’s funeral, Zoe recites Stuart Harris’ poem, as well as a poem written by her friend. Alice Jones, the woman who signed her last letter, is her true name. In the final scene of the novel, Alice receives a letter from Aaron in Bolivia. Aaron points out that if you love something, you must let it go.

This wasn't just one story about Zoe, the main character. It interweaves 3 stories together. Zoe, Stuart's, and Dot's. The plot and story line was fast paced and makes you ponder why, what, how, when. A wonderful, romantic and sad story told through a series of letters written by a fifteen-year-old girl to a man on death row. It's heartstoppingly gorgeous and we'd recommend it to anyone. I don't know why, but I somehow love reading books of the contemporary genre. And for the record (aside from its strange title), I chose Ketchup Clouds because of its cover (haha can't help it) and its interesting synopsis that got me curious all along. Ron Rash is renowned for his writing about Appalachia, but his latest book, The Caretaker, begins ...Ketchup Clouds is edgy and poised. With twists and turns, it's hard to put down and makes the perfect follow up to Pitcher's sensational debut The conc I won't tell you how much I love you, or how scared I am of being without you, or how I need to hide away from everyone because no one will ever compare to you... I will simply let you go. True love is about sacrifice, after all, and if I want you to be free of the memory of Max then you need to be free of me.” I would definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for an invigorating, coming-of-age book. The young adult category can often come off as whiney and "woe is me" but this book proves that that is not always the case, even when the main character does have a lot to whine about. There are good authors of every genre if you just know where to look and Annabel Pitcher is one of them. ( THE GUARDIAN) Immature and childish story about a teen girl caught between two brothers. I am obviously not the target audience for this one.
