About this deal

We meet Sydney, whose boyfriend has just cheated on her with her roommate, and her guitar-playing neighbor Ridge, who lets Sydney temporarily stay with him when she no longer can look at said roommate. Felix suspects he might need to have a fight to the death with a revenge-crazed Polish killer. Australia, he hopes, will be a better place for this to happen with its fully-functioning police force and less rubble to trip over than in Europe. This story alternates narration between Sydney and Ridge. This method of storytelling is commonly employed by Hoover and is very effective, as Ridge ends up in quite a tug-of-war with his feelings. It enables the reader to fully feel the palpable struggle he’s experiencing. I for one prefer books where my daughters get shown, not told, that girls can do great things. (I’m also under the impression my four year old can easily see through the book’s empty phrases, rereads have not been demanded.)

This is the single most beautiful children’s picture book I’ve ever read. The illustrations pulled me in and wouldn’t let go. The story is about making your own way in the world and being willing to be who you are. It’s about marching to the beat of your own drum. It’s a book about being real and making a difference in the world. About believing pigs can fly and each of us is a creative spirit that can soar in heart and mind. The artwork adds depth and complexity to every sentence. Odds of winning will depend upon the total number of eligible entries received. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. I truly believe that readers will believe anything is possible after reading Maybe. The opening question of Maybe is simple yet profound: “Have you ever wondered why you are here?” It’s amazing how the power of suggestion can be so inspiring. Was this question always the starting point for the manuscript of Maybe? Please share your inspiration for how Maybe took shape.Go to https://www.thechildrensbookreview.com/weblog/2019/09/kobi-yamada-and-gabriella-barouch-discuss-maybe.html on a computer or wireless device and complete and submit the entry form pursuant to the on-screen instructions. I'm a reader of 100+ books per year, I studied English literature, and I've been on The Today Show'sRead with Jenna Book Club, Buzzfeed, The Atlantic, Esquire, Mashable, The Everygirl, Glamour, and more. My essay was published in the book But I'm a Gilmore! Gabriella: It was actually Kobi’s idea, a part of his vision for the girl—a child that createsher own adventures. The bird hat represents her dreams and creativity for me since she made it herself.Gabriella: I do! The girl in the book is based on a real life girl I personally know. She was my reference for the art and naturally her personality transferred into the book, along with her look. She is a free spirit and I felt she is so right for this book.

This book is beautifully illustrated, the message is wonderfully simple, and these few lines in particular calmed the *religious disorientation* pulling me down: In traditional publishing, the author and illustrator of a picture book do not typically have a lot of communication. How did the both of you collaborate on Maybe? Ich habe leider keine Kinder, den ich das Buch vorlesen könnte, aber ich bin verzaubert und glaube, auch jedes Kind wäre es! Kobi: I think, in many ways, each day brings opportunities to test our potential. But if I were to take on something completely new, it might be in the culinary arts. It is such a fun, life-enriching art form and you get to deliciously begin again with each meal. They live in the same apartment and while they initially cannot stand one another, as the story progresses we see guards come down and walls crumble as two people learn more about one another, themselves, and their emotions. Gabriella: As an illustrator, I’m heavilyinfluencedby classic children’s literatureand art. With that said, no intentional homagewas made.
