Single “Where Did All The Guitars Go?” (somewhat ironically given their own forays into polished pop), questions the current landscape of bedroom beatmakers in favour of angry singalongs troubled teens can chant to in sweaty gig venues. Poynter’s pop-punk fuelled “I’m Fine” delivers on that front, as he contemplates the rest of his (band?) mates settling down. Better yet is the chaotic call of “Crash” with its stuttering dual guitars and an immense drum roll that thrusts us into the last chorus all in under two minutes. Forever’s Not Enough provides an effective contrast between synth-led verses and overdriven hooks, a testament to fulfilling relationships with a little nod to The Darkness halfway through. I’m Fine takes the tempo down and focuses on repressed emotions, the bridge’s repeated lyrics building to a scream at least as intense as anything on 2008’s radio:ACTIVE (“what do you want, do you want from me?”). The performances come in support of their upcoming album Power To Play which is set for release on Friday 9 June. The band, famed for their hits Obviously, 5 Colours in Her Hair, and Star Girl, previously played at the LCR in 2012 and at the UEA Sportspark in 2004, and band member Danny Jones played a solo gig at Norwich's Waterfront in 2019.
