And, while MM..FOOD is mostly the work of a mad scientist in his secret lair, a sprinkling of super-villain team ups with Count Bass D, Madlib, PNS of The Molemen, Stahhr, and Mr. Fantastik, all add to the album's overall flavor. So the prospect of a skit-filled mid-section of a(n under) 50-minute LP may sound grim, but it's not so bad. It's also counterbalanced with some of the best songs MF DOOM has ever done -- "Potholderz,""Deep Fried Frenz,""One Beer,""Rapp Snitch Knishes," etc. There are also some great collaborations here. "Potholderz" was a Count Bass D song that DOOM hopped on after the fact, and "Rapp Snitch Knishes" features Mr. Fantastik who should have done more work. All four guests put in great performances though. MF Doom described Mm..Food as a concept album "about the things you find on a picnic, or at a picnic table". [1] The album's titles and lyrics contain references to different foods, some with common metaphors and double entendres in the "street world" and the "nutritional realm". Food is DOOM's second 'solo' album. I say 'solo' because a chunk of the album his instrumental and one song doesn't even feature him on the mic. This isn't to say it's any less of an album though. In fact it's my favourite of DOOMs 'solo' releases. With the official follow-up to the classic "Operation Doomsday," MF DOOM has hip-hop heads foaming at the mouth. Cooked up with his special herbs and spices, get ready to devour "Mmm...Food," with the help in the kitchen from Count Bass D, Mr. Fantastik, and the good folks at Rhyme Sayers Entertainment.

MF DOOM finally released a followup to Operation: Doomsday under the "MF DOOM" moniker with MM..FOOD in late '04. I say "finally" not because of the 5 year gap so much as the fact that there were a lot of LPs released in that time that were not credited to "MF DOOM" (Metal Fingers albums, Viktor Vaughn albums, two releases with MF Grimm, and of course the ubiquitous Madvillainy).

On the surface, MM.. Food is a concept album about food. Every song on here is titled after some sort of edible substance and the word food is sampled more times than you can count. The production on this album is fantastic and is probably the most refined out of DOOM's career. The sources are obscure and he even samples Frank Zappa at one point.

After re-launching his career in the late nineties with a string of singles on Fondle Em Records, leading up to the instant-classic Operation: Doomsday album, MF DOOM relentlessly pushed forward, always innovating along the way, building what has become one of the most storied and revered careers in the world of Hip Hop. I have just put the VMP version up against the original 2004 pressing. The VMP version stand no chance comparing to the original. The soundstage of the original is obviously much larger, with better instrumental separation, you can easily pin point where each instrument coming from. Dynamic range is also much better on the OG press, where bass goes deeper & high notes are sharp but not unpleasant. The VMP also sounds more compressed, but not too bad. If you are a casual listener, then the VMP serves well. But hardcore fan definitely need the OG version. Plus, Kookies has its original Sesame theme sample on the OG!

With culinary references and intricate metaphors at every turn, he creates a unique and immersive world, keeping listeners engrossed in his sonic narrative. The theme was def unique and enjoyable to listen to all the way through. Production is also just chopped up so fantastically and i love the use of pretty much every sample. Can see why some would prefer this over Madvillainy.Another favourite of mine, 'Rapp Snitch Knishes' features the mysterious 'Mr. Fantastik' who also appeared on 'Anti Matter' from Take Me to Your Leader. They talk about how ridiculous it is to rap about your crimes as it's almost like you're snitching on yourself. Mm..Food (stylized in all caps) is the fifth studio album by British-American rapper and producer MF Doom, released by Rhymesayers in November 2004. The album peaked at number 17 on Billboard 's Independent Albums chart, and number 9 on Heatseekers Albums chart. The title Mm..Food is an anagram of "MF Doom". Offiziellecharts.de – MF Doom – Mm ...
