About this deal

I can still taste that fruity aspect, but it’s more like dried apricots and orange slices at this point. Much less lemon or melon, which are lighter and weaker in intensity by comparison. I can also taste much more of the traditional scotch whisky flavors — specifically, that almost bread-like malted barley flavor with a touch of honey. On ice, this is significantly closer to the original Famous Grouse. Now the expression is being relaunched as a standalone brand made from a selection of malt whiskies but without any grain, offeringa ‘more robust’ flavour than its blended predecessor. But not the rich sweetness promised by the nose. There are notes of oak, cinnamon, cardamom and grape. Water softens the spices a bit but does not release any additional sweetness. The Edrington Group owns the Famous Grouse brand as well as The Macallan, Cutty Sark and Highland Park. This Naked Grouse has a high proportion of spirit from Macallan & Highland Park. The Macallan bringing the sweet sherry influence, and Highland Park bringing a slightly malty, smoky sharpness. Research in key markets has shown that these casks act as an essential cue for customers, highlighting the quality of the liquid inside.

Whisky reviews for The Naked Grouse Blended Malt Scotch Whisky

I enjoy this whisky and I hope that when Edrington sold Glenturret to Art & Terroir they were able to write in some stipulations about getting access to barrels to keep this brand going without having to dramatically change it. They also sold off Cutty Sark to La Martiniquaise at the same time, so who knows what’s going to happen with that one. But for now they’re holding on to all the Grouse brands so I’m hoping they can keep this going and keep it tasty. Anyways, time to drink! For our consumers, the whisky category can be difficult to navigate and bound with conventions they don’t want to be constrained by, so for us, it’s about making whisky more accessible,” Elaine Miller, Global Brand Controller at Naked Malt, said in a prepared statement. “We want to give a new generation the freedom to try whisky their way, whilst providing the reassurance of a great quality, versatile liquid.”

We’ve pulled it out of Famous Grouse, so it will be a brand in its own right,’ she said. ‘We are trying to make it as simple as possible by moving away from some of the stereotypes of whisky and doing something for older millennials. Something to note about that body is that, rather than the eponymous Famous Grouse being an illustration, now the grouse is molded right into the glass of the bottle. It’s a very cool and very interesting design feature. Naked Malt was initially launched as a ‘Blended Scotch’ under the name Naked Grouse in 2011. In 2017, to capitalise on the burgeoning popularity of contemporary whiskies, its formulation was changed to a ‘Blended Malt’, leading to consecutive years of double-digit growth*.

The Naked Grouse brand is uncomplicated; we’re trying to debunk terminology, so we don’t want to get bogged down in the technical side of what it is. It tastes great and that’s it.’ Regardless of whether the Service offers the functionality to contribute, you are solely responsible and liable for any content and information that you create, upload, post, publish, link to, duplicate, transmit, record, display or otherwise make available on the Service or to other Members, such as chat messages, text messages, videos, audio, audio recordings, music, pictures, photographs, text and any other information or materials, whether publicly posted or privately transmitted (“Contributions”). Malt whisky continues to rise in popularity with consumers and, by changing our blended Scotch to a blended malt, we can use the individuality and character of single malts and create a whisky that stands out from the crowd,’ said Elaine Miller, global marketing manager for Naked Grouse.

That’s a pretty bold statement, I know, but I haven’t been too enthused with the latest releases of Highland Park 12 or Macallan 12; neither one is really hitting the strides they used to. As for Glenturret and Glenrothes… well… I’ve never been a big Glenrothes fan and this exceeds nearly every one I’ve had. Glenturret I’ve had a few here and there, but nothing that’s ever made me purposefully seek them out – hence the statement above. Glenturret distillery, home to The Famous Grouse, has released a core range of single malt whiskies.

When US Prohibition came into force in January 1920, the Scotch world was dismayed. Economic depression, coupled with high taxation, had forced a high reliance on export markets. However, as was the case with a handful of other blenders, the company’s distribution to markets close to the United States such as Canada, Latin America and the West Indies suddenly shot up. If some shipments made their way into the States, then so be it. William Grant & Sons, the company which owns a significant chunk of Scottish distilleries including Balvenie and even Tuthilltown Spiritsin New York, helped take the company private in 2000 where it remains today. Product Convention said that blended malt got its flavour from bourbon casks, used again and again. This got us thinking… What if instead, we used first fill sherry casks to add another layer of rich and fruity flavour to our malts? It didn’t just work, it was a joyful exuberance of flavour that changed the possibilities of whisky enjoyment.” Konklusion:
