The 8.5” should be used for robos, small winter whites and Campbell’s only and is not appropriate for a Syrian hamster.If you can afford it, I suggest buying two wheels and letting your hamster choose their favorite. I often give my hamsters two wheels in their enclosures. This allows them to choose which one they want to use and allows me to wash one while the other can still be available to them. For mine it is as they can run on it at the same time, although they don't usually do that and take turns instead . They do occasionally argue over it, but nothing serious. This wheel only comes in one size: 8.7” so is only appropriate for dwarf hamsters (no Syrians!). It’s also a bit heavy and can be hard to push for younger hamsters or Roborovski hamsters. For this reason, I really only recommend this wheel for Campbell’s or winter white dwarf hamsters. These wheels work well on their base and also work well when attached to a cage. Ensure you buy the additional cage attachment kit if you plan on using this wheel for a cage set up.
