Pornography can be good, bad, or neutral. It depends on how a person uses it, the type of porn the person consumes, and the effect their use has on their relationships and life. Bear in mind these are the same questions I have sent to all of my participants and the answers will remain completely anonymous”(Kear, 2020: Interview B). For many, the porn industry represents an archaic and outmoded view of women. It continues to promote an ideology of objectification and submission which is considered anti-progressive. Couples should discuss pornography, and people with concerns about pornography should consider talking to a sex-positive counselor. What’s not very clear is whether pornosexuality is another preference, a trend, or an actual problem. Strictly speaking, pornosexuals are people who only and exclusively achieve sexual satisfaction when they look at porn. There’s no other way to experience sexual pleasure for them. They’re not occasional users of x-rated movies. Instead, porn is essential to the enjoyment of their sexuality.

Tristan Taormino defines Feminist Pornography as a genre dedicated to “gender equality and social justice. Feminist porn is ethically produced porn, which means that performers are paid a fair wage and they are treated with care and respect; their consent, safety, and well-being are critical, and what they bring to the production is valued. Feminist porn explores ideas about desire, beauty, pleasure, and power through alternative representations, aesthetics, and filmmaking styles. Feminist porn seeks to empower the performers who make it and the people who watch it” (Breslaw, 2013). But what does the evidence actually say about how porn may or may not be affecting people? Can research provide any answers? The truth is that it is a difficult question for scientists to study. The nature of porn dictates that researchers must either rely on people self-reporting their porn habits, or show it to them in laboratory settings that are unnatural.
