I love a historical setting, and this author aced it. Every detail was written with such precision: the clothing, setting, dialogue, moral code and behaviour felt effortless, and meant you could truly be immersed in this world.

However, I feel added to the story as it unravelled slowly and served an important purpose in strengthening the connection between the past and present, as well as building empathy for the protagonist as we see her childhood.
