About this deal

You know what’s a good signal? The amount of Sony users getting out f their way to “prove” in comment section the “superiority” of their system. The stabilization system also underpins the eight-shot 96MP High Resolution mode. The S5 II doesn't have the hand-held high-res mode from the GH6, and so requires a tripod or otherwise fixed camera, but it still offers a motion correction mode for preventing artifacts from moving subjects in the scene. New processor Ultimately, though, the S5 II seems likely to succeed or fail based on its AF performance. There's little reason to doubt it'll be a capable video camera, but the effectiveness of its revised AF system will help define how easy it is to shoot with for both stills and video, and in that department it's squaring up against some very capable competition. Motion pictures with 200Mbps or less: External USB-SSD, SD memory card with UHS-I / UHS-II UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) or Video Speed Class 30 or higher

What’s in the box?

Compared to its predecessor, the S5 II is a real movie-making beast, and the S5 was already pretty good in that respect itself. But Panasonic has also launched the Lumix S5 IIX, which is even more of a beast, with a slightly higher price tag and a slightly longer wait before you can buy one (it is due to ship in May 2023). Lumix S5 IIX: 5.8K Apple ProRes to SSD via HDMI or USB and All-I recording, Apple ProRes RAW to Atomos I am pretty convinced that after the initial release sales will drop and fall as a stone. 'Demand' here on DPR by 'Want it' looks to be pretty low compared to other cameras recently released. I think the user base here on DPR is a good representation of the total market. I'm a Sony user, and I think that S5II is a terrific camera, and that Panasonic's ecosystem is great, and their future is bright (unless... an asteroid kills them; something that can happen to anyone).

We will see soon enough. Right now it’s “they will sell to nobody”, “but the lens selection”, or “but their AF still needs to mature”. The S5 II continues to use the DMW-BLK22 battery from the previous version, which means it's also fully compatible with the same AC adaptor, DC coupler and dedicated battery chargers as the Mark I. If you’re on the fence about those features and see them more as nice to haves, it may be worth saving your money and putting it towards one of the excellent LUMIX S F1.8 prime lenses. However, I would say it’s better to get a camera you can grow into. Even if it has features you may not feel you need right now, if you can afford it, it could make more sense to get the higher specced model as it will likely serve you in the long term as your filmmaking evolves. Name That Camera Well, if Chris and Jordan are biased, Chris needs to brush up on his homework. More than once on DPRTV he's commented on the 'adequate' quality of the Lumix f/1.8 lenses, disregarding the (much) higher quality S-Pro range (albeit coming with hefty weight and - new - price, notwithstanding there are quite number now appearing on the used market at reasonable prices). B.I.S. (5-axis / 5-stop*) *Based on the CIPA standard [Yaw/Pitch direction: focusing distance f=60mm when S-R2060 is used.]

We're going to put a video out featuring the LUMIX S5II once we've been able to thoroughly test it, so make sure you're signed up to our YouTube channel! For now, take a look at all the key specifications for the two models and find out how the Lumix S5IIX differs frm the S5II. Both cameras, the S5II and the S5IIX, are equipped with the same 24.2MP full-frame sensor and processing engine, implying that, all else being equal, the image quality should be identical. I don’t know that more resolution is of value other than in a few circumstances , such as seriously large prints.

More and more I read in comments that a photo centric camera needs to have more than 24 MP, such as S1R or better A7Riv/v. Richard, It seems I am repeating myself here. Why is there no full review of this groundbreaking S5ii/x?whos buying it sony user? not a chance. theyre already invested. canon, nope again. nikon, why? obviously more pana shooters. but thats about it. This issue came up with the mysteriously-still-unreviewed Pentax K-3III. A lot of Pentaxians were upset, but I found this reaction strange. They all had Pentax chargers lying around. I must have four of them (admittedly, some from aftermarket batteries). took them way way too long. in these many years of the new system, everyone built up a rep for the s5 when asked "hows the s5?""bad af" and then its dismissed. it will take them a long time to remove the bad rep they have when its proved itself in hands of pros over years. problem is, not enough lens selections. yes, there is enough of all FL, but not enough of each. with sony they have oem sigma samyang tamron and other odd ones. not yet with pana. one video I saw from iphonedo was the best for me. the least sugar coated. but those on sony, I doubt will be moving anytime soon. that system has matured and has worked well, on the whole. At the heart of the S5 II is a new processing engine that is the first product of Panasonic's L² co-development project with Leica. The two companies shared know-how and resources to develop the new processor, which we'd expect to see in future Leica models, too.
