About this deal

Another significant change that Sony has made with the A7R V in comparison with earlier models is that as well as being slightly larger (3.2-inches vs 3-inches) and higher-resolution (2,095,104-dots vs 1,440,000-dots), the A7R V’s screen is mounted on a 4-way tilting mechanism. It’s like a tilting and vari-angle screen combined whereas the A7R IV has a standard tilting screen. Sony A7S II: 5fps (Speed Priority mode); otherwise 2.5fps. Up to 200 JPEGs, 31 compressed Raw frames or 24 uncompressed Raw frames. Isn't that, in auto-ISO, something that aims for that 17% grey, and that simply doesn't apply for SLog2? BIONZ utilizes two chips in its design. The first chip is an SoC that manages overall functionality of the camera such as SD card storage management, wired connection such as USB and HDMI, and wireless protocols such as Wi-Fi and NFC that are increasingly common on modern Sony α cameras. The BIONZ SoC can be identified by its part number "CXD900xx". The second chip is the ISP (image signal processor). It handles the data directly from the CMOS image sensor, and it is directly responsible for the camera's high-ISO noise characteristics in a low-light environment. The ISP can be identified by the part number "CXD4xxx".

This camera uselessly allows me to shoot at f4 or smaller in terrible low light conditions. Hate having that autofocus in low light as well. who needs it?However, just because they go to unusual lengths to accommodate the videographer, this doesn't mean any compromises have been made to the feature sets they offer the stills shooter. Noticeably, the Sony offers the same handling and controls as its more stills orientated a7 and a7R models.

However, Timbukto - on Sony cameras, setting this to 'Off' does not actually mean the aperture stays wide open, since the aperture will close down if the camera 'thinks' the scene is bright. It'll then open/close the aperture to your selected aperture when acquiring focus, unless it thinks it needs to open it up b/c it's too dark, or close it down b/c it's too bright (to avoid saturation). For me, A7ii is the facinating mainly because of the IBIS, as quite a bit of my shots are handheld. The A9 II’s autofocus system consists of 693 phase-detection AF points and 25 contrast-detection points. In total, the autofocus points cover more than 93 percent of the frame and focus calculations are made 60 times per second — more than enough for even the most demanding environments and subjects.

I have been very tempted to go the A7II route, but I have to say the reports of cooked raws, plus my own experience that Sony raws are not as flexible as others', concerns me. The Sony A7's electronic viewfinder has a resolution of 2.4 million dots – not as high as the latest cameras, but actually not bad. (Image credit: Digital Camera World) Lab tests But the news is slightly more mixed when it comes to the A7 IV's card slots. Unlike the Sony A7 III, it does now have a CFexpress Type A slot. These newer cards give you write speeds of up to 700MB/s, which effectively gives you an unlimited buffer during continuously shooting. Sony’s A7 series was divided into three lines that were started with the A7, A7R and A7S. However, as of 2020, Sony has now added the A7C to the series thus creating a quartet of full-frame mirrorless cameras. Richard, Rishi, as I understand Baseline ISO or Native ISO is the Sensitivity (according to the Standards) that passively collect Photons. No gain, No Amplification.Processing all those pixels takes power, but the A7R IV still ekes out 670 shots on one battery, or 530 when using the electronic viewfinder. Oh boy, you're opening a can of worms there :) We're interested in this very topic b/c we feel that the Sony cameras' reticence to open up the aperture when acquiring AF cripples it in low light and for continuous AF, since focusing at a smaller aperture means less light and more DOF (so increased range of hunting). Having a higher dynamic range above iso 400 over every other camera ever manufactured is an absolute useless feature. The A7R III also feels more rounded than the models that go before it. Its autofocusing system is impressive so it’s even suitable for shooting sport. The very best focusing system, however, is in the A7R V which has 693 phase detection points and the very latest subject detection options which include Human (Right/Left Eye Select) / Animal (Right/Left Eye Select) / Bird / Insect / Car / Train / Airplane, all of which work in stills and video mode.
